Christian Zilko indieWire Lousy Carter might be a reminder that middle age is filled with monotony and unsolvable problems, but that doesn’t mean our movies have to be. Rated: C Mar 29, 2024 Full Review Clint Worthington RogerEbert.com It’s a terrific performance, one that speaks volumes even as it explores the acute limits of Lousy’s emotional intelligence. Rated: 2.5/4 Mar 29, 2024 Full Review Amy Nicholson New York Times Turn the concept of a laugh-out-loud comedy inside-out and you’ll have a feel for Byington’s sense of humor: a sustained cruel hum, the room tone of a crypt. Mar 28, 2024 Full Review Calum Cooper The People's Movies Lousy Carter earns its title. It’s a cynical, depressing outing that, like its anti-hero protagonist, fundamentally lacks self-awareness. Rated: 1/5 Jul 19, 2024 Full Review Ray Pride Newcity David Krumholtz excels in Austin auteur Bob Byington’s Lousy Carter... it’s a termite treasure that still tickles plenty with another stellar Byington male worm, ideally embodied by the underrated Krumhol Rated: 8/10 Jul 4, 2024 Full Review Connor Lightbody Loud and Clear Reviews the character is so frustratingly morose that none of the comedic beats, all of which are played in the same parched way, land Rated: 1/5 Jul 4, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Alec B Krumholtz is great and I think the movie has the right sardonic tone. I'm not sure if the ending is earned but at least it's an interesting swing for the fences. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/07/24 Full Review Alex D Really enjoyed the film - the dry humor and mild absurdity throughout made me laugh. I liked seeing David Krumholtz in a smaller film after just seeing him in Oppenheimer. Also reminded me that I should read the Great Gatsby again. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/05/24 Full Review Inner E Wonderful comedy, further proof of what we already knew: the talent of Bob Byington, one of those few directors with his own universe. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/04/24 Full Review Juan Manuel D For decades, Bob Byington's cinema has been a comedy that, with its man-children (here the glory partly belongs to David Krumholtz), plays with language like no one else. The universality of the formula ("a pathetic being discovers he has only months to live") serves as an excuse for his absurd ping-pong, showcasing his verbal sparring, which isn't about speed but about exposing the world (both the cinematic one and the other) through his surgical and absurd deadpan. Where Byington strikes, like good termite comedy, he reveals the flaws of an increasingly pathetic American cinema, one that is becoming more fossilized in the eyes of those who watch, buy, and program it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/30/24 Full Review Munkhchimeg T Wow, very crucial movie that has a good point. Memorable and thoughtful movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/15/24 Full Review Bahad j I felt like the characters in this movie could feel the happiness and difficulties that they faced in real life.
