      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Nora Ephron's attempt at dark comedy is an uneven product, both in terms of the direction and the acting. The characters are unlikable to the point where you don't care what happens to them, and Ephron condescends to the material.

Steve D Completely incompetent. Not one laugh to be found. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Felix T I can't believe the low rating for a funny movie. They delivered their lines spot on and accurately skewered the media, the police, and the whole concept of the lottery. What else do you want. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/20/22 Full Review Audience Member Nora Ephron's gap of skipped creativity resulted in seemingly uncaring direction towards a lazily mediocre story with agreeably unlikeable characters corrupted by greed with pitifully nonsensical desperation that molded pathetic performances from a nice cast sacrificing their dignity, and it's not enough for the satisfying payoff to save this unworthy picture. (C-) Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Dark "comedy" that isn't funny enough or dark enough. A lot of good actors are wasted. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Bill M Okay, I'm not going to go into detail because it's over 5 years since I last saw this movie. (I've got it on videotape and no longer use the VCR). The only reason I'm posting a review is because I can't believe how low a rating this witty, original, intriguing and hilarious movie has gotten. If you liked Tin Cup you will love Lucky Numbers. There's never a dull moment. It's a comedy classic. I found it hilarious the first time I saw it and have laughed just as hard the other 3 or 4 times. In fact, I just watched the trailer, about 5 minutes ago, and laughed out loud. Again. John Travolta plays the movie version of the Roger Miller song, Kansas City Star. He's "the number one attraction/ In every supermarket parking lot." Actually he's the local TV news anchor with "his own table at Dennys". But the star of the movie is Lisa Kudrow, the TV weather person. If she was any stupider it would be illegal. If for no other reason this movie is worth seeing because Michael Moore (yes, that Michael Moore) makes a guest appearance playing basically himself. A despicable asthmatic nerd. Anyway, my work here is done... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/17/20 Full Review Audience Member People need to lighten up and laugh at a hilarious comedy when they see it. It's what makes us human! I laughed my arse off Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
