Audience Member This is a good companion piece to the written play, for anyone looking to gain a better understanding of Aristophanes. Though if you're choosing one or the other, definitely read the play, as some of the puns and general cleverness are lost in the film, perhaps due partly to the translation. It also works brilliantly enough as a satire without adding in all of the extra silliness and over-the-top acting in the movie, by a cast which doesn't take their roles quite seriously enough for us to believe them. In fact, this film draws a lot more attention to just how improbable and unrealistic Aristophanes's scenario really is, which is somehow easier to overlook in the format of a play. At least the songs are catchy, if a bit repetitive. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
