Colin Bennett The Age (Australia) Look behind the familiar facade, the lyrical dissolves and violent flurries of a minor thriller like Macon County Line, and you find a dramatic strength and truth that are not nearly common enough in this genre of cinema. Audience Member This is a pretty decent movie, well executed, especially in the context of the time when it was made. It’s not a particularly outstanding story, but it isn’t boring either. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/29/23 Full Review deke p Seemed a little amatuerish, but then it was MAX BAER'S first directing, and writing. Made up story of Southern Sheriff stuff. Max playing the 'bad sheriff'. But it made the most profit over small investment for that year. I started to lose interest. Maybe i should pay more attention next time. Wikip categorized it as a (cheap) "DRIVE-IN MOVIE". Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member It drags in places corny earlier style television shows GA as racist and backwoods justice law enforcement officials Based on a true story but I think the story line here is blah Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Average at best. It's a predicable movie that tends to be an pretty sloppy and slow moving. I fell asleep twice while watching it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review delysid d This is a good movie Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/28/18 Full Review Audience Member After watching this classic Hixploitation/Rednexploitation film, I was shocked to realize I'd never seen this drive-in classic before. I must have confused it with some other rural themed exploitation film like "Jackson County Jail" or "Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry" or something else. The story here follows two likable brothers who are hunted by a vengeful southern sheriff who wrongfully believes they murdered his wife. The only real actor of note in the film is Max Baer Jr. as a deputy sheriff, who's best known for playing dimwitted Jethro Bodine on "The Beverly Hillbillies," and is the only thing I can remember seeing him in, so it came as a surprise how good he was in this film. Baer also co-wrote the film with director Richard Compton, who'd previously directed the the excellent biker film (my favorite disreputable exploitation film sub-genre) "Angels Die Hard" and who would later direct quite a few episodes of "Miami Vice" and "The Equalizer." It's a tough little story that's filled with lots of southern flavor and plenty of exploitation film charms (i.e. sex, violence, good 'ol boys, fast cars, injustice, etc.). Top all that off with a young James Gammon in a bit part and Geoffrey Lewis as a dullard mechanic named Hamp and you've got a must-see film for Hixploitation fans!
