Auschwitz survivor and retired prostitute Madame Rosa (Simone Signoret) has become a caretaker for the children of other prostitutes. With her physical and mental health declining, Rosa begins returning her charges to their parents' care. However, she has grown attached to the only unclaimed child, Momo (Samy Ben Youb), a 14-year-old Arab boy whose parents disappeared years ago. Still tormented by memories of the Holocaust, Rosa becomes increasingly convinced the Gestapo is coming for her.

Madame rose is Simone Signoret, and without her, they would have had to archive this project. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Madame Rosa is one of those lost treasures that begs to be rediscovered and appreciated. And its themes could not be timelier. Go to Full Review

This is a movie definitely worth seeing for Signoret's portrayal of a very human old woman, a type not often selected in the cinema for heroine stature. Go to Full Review

Simone Signoret -- with her perfect image, performance, humanity, and pathos -- makes and saves the film. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

This melodrama, which won Foreign Language Oscar, about an aging prostitute taking care of children, is mediocre, but Simone Signoret gives a dominant, utterly compelling performance. Go to Full Review

03/03/2013 Simone Signoret is simply superb as Madame Rosa, a former prostitute and inmate of Auschwitz, who now cares for children of other Parisian prostitutes. Signoret <3 See more 03/15/2009 Do yourself a favour. Watch this if you ever get the chance. Its mind-boggling See more 11/01/2008 A very thin plot, more like an impressionist painting. Very truthful and touching, very good directing by Mizrahi. See more 10/28/2008 Pretty good film starring Simone Signet as a retired prostitute who takes care of the children of prostitutes. She has a good relationship with the oldest child, an Arab who want to know about his parents. Signet is excellent, and the child actor also gives a very nice performance. However, it’s a bit too long and some scenes drag on. But it’s still a nice character study and an interesting story.
