      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Although Malignant isn't particularly scary, director James Wan's return to horror contains plenty of gory thrills -- and a memorably bonkers twist.

Love it or hate it -- and there isn't much in between -- Malignant is one horror movie that takes risks and is willing to get weird.

Bianca Interesting premise. Would have loved to have seen the inverse story line. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/17/21 Full Review Kathy P At first, I thought. I was not going to like this movie. But, it turned out to be a really good horror movie. I am. Someone that deals with these demons visitation. In my personal life. I can kind of understand. The creator mind. When he wrote this movie. So, if anybody, thinks this is not real. And really is not going on. Not only in Seattle. Where this movie takes place. But, around the entire world. You better take heed. Don't think this is a joke. Don't play with God/Christ with that Satan. Or the spiritual world. Your Souls. Or your physical. Or mental health. Where especially this secretly goes on. Or the Law of the Land. Thinking you can get away. With God/Christ. Or man with Satan's forces. It may have come from out of Hollywood. And some may not believe it. Until it really starts to happened to them. And even then. It does not hit home with them for years. What is really going on. With Satan warring with God/Christ to take over the earth. And rule it for eternity. He needs to be put in Hell. And not released in another 1,000 years. He need to be locked up for eternity. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/11/21 Full Review Jared The story was dog shit, the acting was bad and watching this leaves more questions than answers like why did I spend my money on this? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/11/21 Full Review Angel like the original concept decent movie from James Wann Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/05/21 Full Review Angelcrackk87 The story line was cool but it was funny too. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/04/21 Full Review Sabina I think the concept they dive into was a good fresh idea. One I personally didn't see coming. David Stratton The Australian Wan cheerfully draws on the extreme work of horror film aficionados such as David Cronenberg and Dario Argento as he piles on the bloody violence. Rated: 3/5 Oct 23, 2021 Full Review Becca James Chicago Reader Malignant is the type of movie that requires viewers to strap in and shut up from the onset. Sep 17, 2021 Full Review Jenny Nulf Austin Chronicle Malignant isn't a good movie, but the bones of its giallo salute are just outlandish enough to make one wonder if the obtuse moments are purposeful. Rated: 2.5/5 Sep 17, 2021 Full Review Aditya Mani Jha Firstpost Malignant is saved by an audacious, stunningly mounted third act, clearly a vintage James Wan in its glorious lunacy. Rated: 3/5 Dec 20, 2023 Full Review Rick Bentley KGET-TV (Bakersfield, CA) Wan does a great job in choreographing his ballet of blood but by that point the movie has lost all of its terror elements. Rated: 1.5/4 Aug 10, 2023 Full Review Cris Parker 3C Films (Youtube) A throwback to early campy 2000s horror is a bold move, one I feel pays off in a gruesomely fun fashion.
