It's too often a routine '80s genre piece, straight down to the synthesizer score, over-lit night scenes, and bandana-sporting street punks. Go to Full Review

Its execution sits perched well above its scummy aim, and the end result is that you feel guilty for wishing for something more perverted. Go to Full Review

A sturdy slasher flick that laces its splattery slayings with some anti-establishment undertones. Go to Full Review

Dripping in 80s exploitation tropes, this gritty crime thriller revels in its era with enough horror elements to make it unique. Go to Full Review

Iron L Sep 8 The movie was just ok, but not good. See more Tim M Aug 7 Slasher stalwarts may love a man in uniform, however Maniac Cop doesn't take advantage of its alternative setting or thematics. See more Craig W. @CJWolfe27 Jul 15 I liked this movie, if you like 80s slashers you should enjoy it too. See more Garry A @heavyg Jun 22 I wanted to like this more than I did. It had potential to be scarier but it switched to more of a mystery and the kills were less menacingly. See more Darren D @DarrenJD Jun 5 A horror favourite of the 80s, "Maniac Cop," is the example of B-movie perfection with writer Larry Cohen teaming up video nasty director William Lustig plus Bruce Campbell & Robert Z'Dar in opposing roles. A horror mystery that captured the broken down parts & sleazy nights of the city that fully takes advantage of the physique of Matt Cordell (Z'Dar) as he's mostly seen in the shadows making him even more of an imposing figure & antagonist. A brute force snapping necks & throwing victims with ease. Cordell isn't just a horror slasher, as the story gives him life with his backstory & almost made him a sympathetic villain who got twisted up by his own vengeance. "Maniac Cop" capitalises on the perception from public trust & fear of the boys in blue. See more Nick O Jun 2 I hate cops to the max, especially when they’re ‘roided out zombie death machines!
