The running theme through "Marci X" is, "You've got to be real." But there's nothing real about the characters in this dismal comedy. Et pourtant Marci X est bien un pensum interminable (pourtant d'1h18) déguisé en romcom débile entre une riche juive new-yorkaise et un gangsta rapper. Si quelques phrases ici et là peuvent faire sourire (quasiment entièrement grâce à Jane Krakowski), Marci X est un facepalm fait film, un amoncellement incroyable de clichés qui oscillent entre l'ignorance et le pur et simple racisme, qui n'a absolument rien à dire sur son sujet et qui se contente de s'appuyer sur Lisa Kudrow et de reléguer Damon Wayans au second plan.
