Critics Consensus

Intoxicating with its maxxximal style, MaXXXine is an uneven but vibrant pastiche that drives a stiletto through Hollywood's heart.

Tara Brady Irish Times For all the clutter, there’s nothing as fun as X’s mechanical alligator jump scares or Pearl’s scarecrow humping. And then there’s the problematic big reveal. We won’t spoil it: we’ll leave you to experience the jump-the-shark moment for yourself. Rated: 3/5 Jul 13, 2024 Full Review Amy Nicholson FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) I like this series so much as a commentary on the artificiality of Hollywood... Terrific fun. Jul 13, 2024 Full Review Adam Nayman The Ringer MaXXXine’s resolution is merely predictable—and disappointing given the larger intimations of some grand narrative design. Jul 13, 2024 Full Review Chris Sawin Bounding Into Comics If it takes two years to make something this sloppy and this lousy then Ti West should allow the Maxine character to ride off into the sunset like the murderous celebrity she has become. Decent kills with a dumpster fire of a story. Rated: 2/5 Jul 26, 2024 Full Review James Croot Stuff.co.nz Like its two predecessors, MaXXXine boasts an impressive commitment to production design and a cinematic aesthetic, but it lacks the killer lines and moments that made particularly Pearl one of best Hollywood horrors of the decade so far. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 26, 2024 Full Review Steph Cozza Cinema Vixens Not quite as scary or visceral as the previous two films, "Maxxxine" remains a fun, dark and twisted odyssey of persevering through trauma and the brutality of Hollywood, cementing Ti West as one of the most visionary directors in contemporary horror. danielle Nailed the 80s vibe, Mia Goth did a phenomenal acting job, The entire movie was riveting and had me in a slight sense of anxiety throughout the movie, and it was super gory. SO GOOD ! A lot of creative camera angle stuff to going on, artsy well done makeup etc Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/26/24 Full Review Sandra Was my favorite movie out of the while franchises Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/25/24 Full Review Myles Worst of the 3 films, did not expect this to be part 2 after X, Maxine is just a badass now, and no harm can be done to her. Gore is till good. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/25/24 Full Review Michael G If I was a teenager I might have found it interesting in a you really shouldnt be at this movie kind of way. Dont waste your time or money. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/25/24 Full Review DrewlyMadlyDeeply The ending felt sorta sudden or random but maybe because it was unexpected. Good ending to the trilogy.
