"Meet Me in St. Louis" is a classic MGM romantic musical comedy that focuses on four sisters (one of whom is the nonpareil Judy Garland) on the cusp of the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. The film spotlights the sisters' education in the ways of the world, which includes, but isn't limited to, learning about life and love, courtesy of the prototypical boy next door. In the end, love -- accompanied by song, dance and period costumes, all in glorious Technicolor -- conquers all.

N P "Meet Me in St. Louis" is a good all-around family film focused on a well to do, privileged Family in 1903 St. Louis. Judy Garland, as always, is enigmatic, as the 2nd sister of a big, tight knit family. Garland is spunky and quite charming - all her scenes and musical tunes carry the picture to major heights. The family itself have a natural repertoire and chemistry, which works nicely. The film itself embodies a warmly saturated tone with orange and red hues to signify coziness and snugness - something familiar and comforting, as if this can be the ideal family relationship you aspire or wish to have. The costumes also spare much from the time period - with avant garde puffy corseted dresses in a variety of colors, buffeted hats, and so on, so forth. "Meet Me in St. Louis" is a classically endearing picture that can cheer you up when the skies are cloudy. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/13/25 Full Review Stephen C Singing non-stop in 1 hour and 53 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love that!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/08/25 Full Review Michael M I first watched Meet Me in St. Louis when I was 10, sometime in the late 1990s. My younger sister was a big fan of Judy Garland films, and this one eventually grew on me. Before long, it became a tradition—we watched it together every Christmas. If you’re in the mood for something lighthearted with great music, this film is an easy pick. The songs are both fun and memorable, with Judy Garland’s performance of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" standing out as one of the most moving moments. The cast is fantastic, with each actor perfectly suited to their role. The Smith family feels like a real family, and their stories, both big and small, are easy to connect with. Set in Missouri at the turn of the 20th century, the film offers a glimpse into a simpler time. It has a warmth and nostalgia that capture the spirit of "Americana," a term that comes up often in reviews of this movie—and for good reason. It’s a celebration of family, community, and the moments that make life meaningful. Even after all these years, Meet Me in St. Louis still holds up. It’s the kind of film that leaves you feeling better after you’ve watched it—especially during the holiday season. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review RICHARD S The absolute best of the MGM musicals! You will never see a more beautiful Judy Garland or better songs written for her. The whole cast is perfect in their roles, direction by Minelli impeccable. This is one film everyone should see! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/25/24 Full Review Simon M This is the worst movie of all time. Do not be duped into watching it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/25/24 Full Review mike j Not so much a musical as a movie with great music. Wonderful songs, story, color and director. But, should rank among the best of the MGM musicals. If you can get through "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" without blubbering, you're a better man than me. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/20/24 Full Review Read all reviews
