Now that Greg Focker is "in" with his soon-to-be in-laws, Jack and Dina Byrnes, it looks like smooth sailing for him and his fiancée, Pam. But that's before Pam's parents meet Greg's parents, the Fockers. The hyper-relaxed Fockers and the tightly-wound Byrneses are woefully mismatched from the start, and no matter how hard Greg and Pam try, there is just no bringing their families together. This all adds up to a disastrously funny time of getting to know you.

Critics Consensus

Talented cast is wasted as the movie is content with recycling jokes from its predecessor, Meet the Parents.

Amy Simmons Time Out This sequel's title indicates the content: smutty, silly and liable to make you smirk despite yourself. Jun 24, 2006 Full Review Empire Magazine Fans of the first will find some amusement in familiarity, but with such a comically able cast this is a missed opportunity. Rated: 2/5 Apr 1, 2006 Full Review Nathan Rabin AV Club Meet The Fockers has assembled a historic, once-in-a-lifetime cast, then stranded them in the laziest, most mercenary kind of sequel imaginable. It's like the 1927 Yankees taking on the Special Olympics softball team. Sep 26, 2005 Full Review Nick Rogers Midwest Film Journal Even though it stretches too thin sometimes, "Meet the Fockers" is a sequel that works at levels similar to and different from its source and another comedic meeting you won’t mind taking. Rated: 3/4 Nov 9, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review [The sequel] shamelessly carbon copies jokes and the plot structure from its predecessor. Rated: 1/4 Aug 3, 2023 Full Review Sean Collier Box Office Prophets It's an unimaginative comedy, with occasionally effective scenes interspersed with flat retreads of the original's jokes. Dionisis T I liked it and that counts! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/28/24 Full Review Audience Member This movie is a little more over the top than the first one, but it’s still really funny. Greg and Jack’s chemistry is great. Adding Greg’s parents to the mix only made it funnier Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Blu B It starts out half decent but just slowly it gets overloaded by too many subplots and it can't find a clever way to make it all work. The Baby, The parents, the marriage, Jack's issues, Greg's wetlock son, it just never feels focused and loses a big reason why the first worked so well. The clever setups for a focused plot which propels the humor. The humor in this is alright. The acting is decent and everyone has the same chemistry as the first and Hoffman & Striesand are good editions but the humor and unfocused plot really weight things down. This relies way too much on low brow sex jokes and lots of recycled stuff from the first one that don't work as well. Everything else is just alright about it. This just needed to trim down all the subplots and that alone would've helped bigtime. None of the humor is terrible just very flat or having a recycled feeling. Oddly enough Ben Stiller is probably the weakest thing in this and is just alright. When it's just him for a bit in the middle he really can't carry this and just isn't funny. I guess if your a big fan of any actors in this it might be worth a watch but most should skip this. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/28/24 Full Review Jace E A sequel to "Meet the Parents" was teased in the final moments of the first film and it somewhat delivers. The characters from the first movie return in full force with Greg and Jack's relationship in a good place, but not too steady. Throw in Greg's parents, played excellently by Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand and the tension is at an all time high. There are some genuinely funny moments in this movie, but it is much more crass than the first. For some reason, there are a lot of weird, nude items scattered throughout the film. Ultimately, this is a fine sequel but it does not hold a candle to the first film. Best Character: Roz Best Quote: "Honey, you want a chimichanga?" - Bernie Best Scene: The RV Incident Best Piece of Score: "Here's My Plan" Note: The Hispanic kid looks remarkably like Ben Stiller. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/16/24 Full Review alan g Waste of decent cast except for Stillborn and Streiquicksand. They suck. The whole franchise sucks. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/11/24 Full Review Alan g Waste of decent actors. Not Ben Stiller. Still can't act. Thinks being confused is acting. Streisand still being the hippie chick which wore thin 100 years ago. Someone put her back in her box and lock it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/26/24 Full Review Read all reviews
