      Critics Consensus

Despite sometimes sitcom-like execution, Meet the Parents is a hilarious look at familial relationships that works mostly because the chemistry between its two leads is so effective. Read critic reviews

Meet the Parents boasts having De Niro as the father whose heart the main character (Stiller) should win to marry the girl of his dreams. For that alone, this film cannot be missed.

Pretty funny. Not really anything special, and definitely not as great as everyone says it is, but it's funny enough.

"Meet the Parents" remains a solid comedy. In the film, a man named Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) plans to propose to his girlfriend Pam (Teri Polo), but first Greg must get through impressing Pam's father Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro), an ex-CIA agent. Hilarity ensues.

Awkward humor has never been my cup of tea, but in "Meet the Parents," the two leads have such great chemistry that it makes the awkwardness somewhat bearable. Ben Stiller has a couple of great scenes to himself, but it's Robert De Niro in a memorable role that gets most of the credit. This is one of the best parts he's played in years, and most of the humor stems from his character. "Meet the Parents" isn't well-made or 'classic' in any sense of the word, but's funny and quotable and has some scenes that won't be forgotten.
