      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

The Last Mimzy makes efforts to be a fun children's movie, but unsuccessfully juggles too many genres and subplots -- eventually settling as an unfocused, slightly dull affair.

Dolly D I love this movie very much even though it feels like a fever dream and makes absolutely no sense (and kind of made me feel like I was on drugs or some shit) I hold this movie very dear to my heart even if it is insane Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/26/23 Full Review Cyrus K I will give credit to this movie that it actually tries to be a good kids movie. But sadly it ends up feeling generic, Overstuffed with side plots and genres, and overall just feeling as if it could have come from any other studio and could have been better. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/09/22 Full Review Audience Member Full of comedy, original fantasy & sweet kissing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member I absolutely loved this movie when it came out, I was 5 years old. I watched again at 20 years old and im glad to say it holds up. It feels magical to watch and was an excellent introduction to sifi as a youth. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member While The Last Mimzy has some good visuals, a solid cast and moments of charm (I certainly wouldn't call it effortless), this family-friendly sci-fi tale, while offering decent-enough counterprogramming for all the fantasy movies coming out at the time, suffers from lack of thrills, struggling to balance elements of drama and thrills, having subplots that eventually come off as irrelevant and just being plain boring sometimes. The Last Mimzy could've been much, much worse but man oh man could it have be so, so much better than what we got. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review joe m A great family film! "The Last Mimzy" deviates from the short story that it's based on, being less dark and more kid friendly, yet overall it still does a great job of translating the story and adapting it to the typical Hollywood razzle-dazzle treatment. The is well paced and has a well done ensemble delivery by a first rate cast, especially the two kids at the center of the movie.
