Critics Consensus

This black comedy wavers between sleaze and satire, without ever fully committing to either.

Manohla Dargis New York Times Mini's First Time is delectably vulgar for 20 minutes or so, almost too bad to be true, but it soon loses its cheap-thrills appeal. Rated: 1.5/5 Jul 14, 2006 Full Review Kyle Smith New York Post Surrounded by all these pros, Reed more than holds her own: She has so much integrity about being amoral that she keeps the audience dangling between disgust and admiration. Rated: 3/4 Jul 14, 2006 Full Review Jack Mathews New York Daily News Mini has a cleverly devious wrap-around ending, but you have been warned: It's twisted. Rated: 3/4 Jul 14, 2006 Full Review Jeff Vice Deseret News (Salt Lake City) It doesn't help that first-time screenwriter/director Nick Guthe created such a superficial group of characters. Few, if any, seem believable or are interesting enough to care about. Rated: 2/4 Oct 13, 2006 Full Review Chris Hewitt St. Paul Pioneer Press The characters in Mini are played by fine performers (Alec Baldwin, Jeff Goldblum, Carrie-Anne Moss), but they're still one-note. Rated: 2/4 Sep 7, 2006 Full Review Harvey S. Karten The Cinema Source Mini's First Time is a down-and-dirty exercise in depravity and debauchery; in other words, just the kind of plot that gets us to turn off the TV and head for the multiplex -- blue states and red states alike. Cristian s Buena película de misterio. Buen ritmo e historia interesante, un poquito estrafalaria y degenerada por momentos pero funcionar funciona. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/30/23 Full Review Audience Member "Mini's First Time" is one of my guilty plesure lifetime-esque moives. I was in my 17-18 when this came out and along with being super Gay for Alec Baldwin seeing a Daddy-Bear like him in the taboo Step-Dad sinaro was super hot to me. I know it's not PC by todays standards but Baldwin Fans like myslef will apricated having this on dvd for a rainy day! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I found the main actress to keep trying to be too over the top and it ended up just becoming annoying 2.4 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/01/20 Full Review hayley b i love this movie, I could not see anyone else other than alec baldwin and nikki reed playing these roles, they go together so well, great performance and plot. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Fun, smart and very entertaining. This film really is special and gets better with repeated viewings. "Mini's First Time" ranks up their with Nikki Reed's first film "Thirteen". Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie has the look and feel of a "better" class B, straight-to-DVD, film. And, it did go to DVD in 6 mos.; after a limited theatre release. It is "better", due to the acting skills of Alec Baldwin and Carrie Ann Moss. The cinematography is also pretty good. The title is a misnomer. This movie has nothing to do with her sexual "first time". When the film opens, high schooler Mini is clearly an experienced, sexual veteran. The lead is Minerva, aka Mini (Nikki Reed). Ms Reed appeared in THIRTEEN; also as a sexy bad girl, as she does here. She was 16 when she performed in THIRTEEN. She was 18 when this movie was made. This movie appears to have been written to capitalize on the limited success of THIRTEEN. And, therefor, also as a vehicle for Ms Reed to star in. Ms Reed was a co-writer on THIRTEEN. Here she plays virtually the same character. She appears to have intimate, personal knowledge of the life style of a teenage, "bad girl". Ms Reed's acting skills seem to be seriously limited. She has one basic expression thru out this movie. This is a movie to skip. Baldwin & Moss carry most of the water. But, their efforts aren't enough to justify watching this flic.
