Critics Consensus

Mojave has no shortage of talent on either side of the camera; unfortunately, it amounts to little more than a frustrating missed opportunity.

Angie Han Slashfilm As failures go, Mojave is a pretty interesting one. But it's a failure nonetheless. Jun 14, 2017 Full Review Leslie Felperin Guardian Isaac is charming and bonhomous as ever, Hedlund is suitably brooding yet dim looking, and Mark Wahlberg is a hoot as a chippy producer perpetually playing host to bored prostitutes. Rated: 3/5 Mar 24, 2016 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) Mojave is deeply annoying. Rated: 1/5 Mar 24, 2016 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …hard-boiled and deliberately alienating, Mojave is also as tough and uncompromising as the desert from which it takes its name… Rated: 3/5 May 31, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Monahan's basic setup has possibility, but his film falls short by failing to generate any empathy whatsoever in his potentially stirring cat-and-mouse thriller. Rated: 1.5/4 Apr 22, 2022 Full Review Therese Lacson Nerdophiles [The acting is] not enough to redeem this story that crawls off without much impact, making it completely unthrilling and basically forgettable. Eric S Why are half the reviews about something called "Everlasting", this movie is Mojave.... Should've named it "Listen here, Brother" and I would've liked it alot more, literally every piece of dialogue in this movie ends with "Brother". I should also mention that outside of hearing the word Brother 1000 times you won't enjoy the movie because it sucks. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/17/24 Full Review J- bird I was thinking Mojave was a better than average movie. A bit short but quite entertaining and kept me on my toes. Now in this day and age is it safe to go to the desert by yourself no. I'm not worried about aliens or paranormal things. You got some sick individuals that know how to survive out in the desert and other terrain that will keep you from going home. The conversations were good going back and forth at one another to see who's ego is going to be there amigo, quite frankly alot of what the drifter was saying about the Bible is true. Oscar Isaac's character was two obsessed at getting back at Tom aka Garrett. It's the little things that get you caught and outsmarted got to keep you wits up. Motiveless malignity that's a good one 100% my ex-wife. Get your rocks off at hurting people and feeling good about it just a pure evil person. So I had to use necessary evil to get a lot of goodness done. I'll have to take a look and see what other people thought about the movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/17/23 Full Review Jerod S It was too existential - a man is facing his own demons in the desert. He stumbles upon someone dealing with life and death as well. But it's really just misses the marker. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/13/23 Full Review joe w For me, I liked the darkness of the story. This movie has no real protraganist Maybe a lot of people don't like that Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Michael C I loved this so much! Reminded me of Cormac McCarthy for some reason. Absolutely cannot believe why the reviews are so yuck. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/09/22 Full Review l g i like indie-type low budget movies (short run time was a clue) so Mojave was okay for me. the first few minutes i thought it was going to be a stinker, then familiar faces and some star power helped for me. i watch lots of flicks, but wasn't familiar with Garrett Hedlund (okay, i'm busted for having a small world). the farther in i got, the more i liked the "corny" dialog. i found much more to like than dislike here.
