Jake Wilson The Age (Australia) A lightweight horror-fantasy aimed in theory at young teens, Monster Summer could be described as a cut-price Stranger Things -- and it certainly is strange in a number of ways. Rated: 2/5 Jan 14, 2025 Full Review Catherine Bray Guardian There are some decent PG-rated thrills and scares for the preteen audience, but adults are unlikely to find it especially convincing, with clunky dialogue and a generic score letting down a solidly traditional spooky mystery. Rated: 3/5 Nov 19, 2024 Full Review Adam Graham Detroit News "Monster Summer" captures a wholesome sense of wonder, and it depicts that time in life between childhood and adulthood when the world is both too big and too small at the same time. Rated: B Oct 7, 2024 Full Review David Griffiths Subculture Entertainment A throw back to the teenage paranormal thrillers of the 1980s and 1990s. It works but is it what audiences of today want? The one thing that is clear though is that Mason Thames is going to be star. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 4, 2025 Full Review Peter Gray The AU Review There’s moments of promise here, but Monster Summer is more a story that tells you it’s bathing in the nostalgic rather than actually simmering in such. Rated: 2/5 Jan 16, 2025 Full Review Cain Noble-Davies FILMINK (Australia) The story itself has its twee moments, but the production values keep it on the right side of spoopy. Joey R Some supporting acting was weak. Parts of plot were ridiculous, but common in scary movies. Mel Gibson was good as usual. There were a few gotcha jump in your seats scenes. I was hoping for a 3 star movie, but it was pretty weak. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/21/24 Full Review Joseph E Great movie and great co-viewing (parent and preteen) experience. The film is part adventure, part mystery and includes Halloween jump scares. Cast is Excellence. Will be one of the films played annually during October! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/18/24 Full Review Trip This was a fun movie, great for the family. The plot also consisted of meaningful insights. I would definitely recommend this film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/15/24 Full Review david s Excellent horror flick Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/14/24 Full Review J Great movie for the Halloween season! Not too scary, my 9yo loved it, but enough thrill and mystery that my middle schooler was also fully invested. And I thoroughly enjoyed having an engaging movie to watch with my kids that wasnt animated! A win all around! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/14/24 Full Review Ethan This was a fun time at the movies but the villain is not flushed out exactly the CGI I did notice I usually am not bothered by that but I thought it was pretty obvious Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/14/24 Full Review Read all reviews
