      Critics Consensus

Despite an effective otherwordly atmosphere and appropriately cheesy visuals, Mortal Kombat suffers from its poorly constructed plot, laughable dialogue, and subpar acting.

Ben W Super fun and cheesy! Great time! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/15/23 Full Review Líder7reynier à This is a masterpiece Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/27/24 Full Review Nol P With Hollywood overdoing it almost always on CGI now and recycling every story ever made from the past, and remaking movies that do not need to be remade, like Road House to name just one, going back to fun movies like the original Mortal Kombat are now blessed and very welcome. Originally I found this movie to be so "corny" with some extra cheese thrown in the middle, but now it is better than most Hollywood movies of today which are just thrown together so fast and without much thought! Try this 1995 fun movie out and remember that this was only 2 yrs after CGI was first mastered with the release of Jurassic Park in 1993. 🙂 Chris Lambert was pretty cool in this movie too so check him out! The sequel was yes rough and just ultra horrible! (1997 one). Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/04/24 Full Review Dinos K The only bad things on the movie were the bad CGI (justified for the year the movie was released) and Christopher Lambert's acting. Aside from those two, the movie was silly fun and, as a fan of Mortal Kombat video games, I had a good time watching it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/24 Full Review Jens B Best title sequence ever! Nonsensical but fun family friendly entertainment, awesome edm soundtrack. I quite liked how some scenes were shot. Some deliveries are astonishingly awful (= funny), and so is every effects shot. This would have been better with more violence and actual gore fx. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/17/24 Full Review James B better than the 2021 remake great acting and I like that they play in a tournament i saw it on streaming on peacock i recommend seeing it on a stereaming service cool fight scenes and fun action see this film Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/14/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Nigel Andrews Financial Times It is too violent for children and too silly for anyone else. Mar 17, 2021 Full Review Geoff Brown Times (UK) Novices may find the ground rules difficult to follow, though if you cut away the baroque detail you are left with a blunt, noisy, violent fight between good and evil. Mar 17, 2021 Full Review Gene Siskel Chicago Tribune The only decent video game turned into a movie. Why? Obviously because the filmmakers have really tried to offer some eye-popping visuals that can provide the same stimuli as the video game itself. Rated: 3/4 Sep 14, 2020 Full Review Jae-Ha Kim Jae-Ha Kim The producers of "Mortal Kombat" know that the film's strength movie is based on the actors' roundhouse kicks, not soliloquies. So it's not surprising that the sci-fi action-adventure is heavy on fight scenes and low on plot. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 27, 2023 Full Review Don Shanahan Cinephile Hissy Fit Podcast The wonderful (and practical) use of a limited budget, the film's phenomenal production design, and exquisite cinematography, and the admittedly terrible application of CGI. Oct 2, 2021 Full Review Shaun Munro Flickering Myth Time hasn't been kind to every facet of Anderson's Mortal Kombat, but its well-crafted atmospherics, heightened action, and enthusiastic cast ensure it remains one of the more spirited video game adaptations to date.
