"Mosul" isn't the kind of easy, sentimental TV viewing often provided during the holidays, but it is a potent reminder of the deadly struggles and sacrifices some people have endured to earn their freedom. Go to Full Review

Some of Carnahan's choices rely on certain Western stereotypes to underscore the awfulness of the Islamic State ... but what Mosul gets right more often is its prioritization of the Iraqi perspective, and the weight of all this violence. Go to Full Review

Vanessa P @vanessaduke Nov 15 There’s so much I loved about this movie. I’ve seen people point out small moments of symbolism I didn’t even notice at first, and it makes the story hit even harder. The perspective of the Nineveh SWAT Team in the fight against ISIS is portrayed with raw honesty. Every man in that unit is personally affected by ISIS, and you feel their pain, motivation, brotherhood, grief, compassion, and brutal choices in every scene. The action is tense without being over-the-top, and the emotional weight hits harder than most big-budget war films. From the moment Kawa joined the team, watching his transformation within just a few days was powerful. You could see the innocence leaving his face, and his sense of justice growing stronger in every scene. Seeing Major Jasem grieve not only for his family taken by ISIS, but for his city was heartbreaking. The acting was phenomenal and made me emotional. Truly a brilliant film. See more Lucas B Feb 8 The only reason I give it 3 stars is because of the good acting and the accurate depiction of war but the plot overall was pretty bad. All movie it felt like their mission was something very important for the greater good of their compatriots and theit country but in the end it turned out to be very subjective, after seeing the ending it felt like them eliminating the terrorists (the way they did it too) was just their way to take revenge. Their mission overall was pointless outside of their own subjective reasons. Also, Kawa was a policeman for 2 months but suddenly after joining SWAT he was acting like he was an elite soldier for the past 10 years, not realistic at all, on top of that the movie was too short. I feel like I wasted my time. See more Tom S 12/15/2024 A movie so engaging that it's hard to believe there's a film crew there with lights & cameras. Astoundingly real. See more Stephen G 12/05/2024 A superb war film that's very different from most in terms of its exclusive focus on an Iraqi unit rather than Western heroes, humanizing the unit's members and presenting a far grittier, reality-based context and plot. Also includes surprising but believable twists and character development. See more Ricardo M 07/30/2024 Few movies got to represent war as well as Mosul did, definitely a must watch.
