Russ G Apr 6 An accidental "cross-over" movie that was written as a Charlie Chan installment then had scenes reshot. At least that's according to some semi-reliable accounts. Mr. Moto lectures a class of budding criminologists on crime-busting science and Charlie's Number One Son becomes his star pupil. The always serviceable Harold Huber is once again filling the role of a cop. The plot line features another inventive twist on a method of homicide. Peter Lorre portrays the East Asian detective in yellowface and thick glasses. None of the actors portraying the pro boxers are convincing and the staged matches aren't realistic, but none of that is central to the plot. The plot felt a little complicated at times, but it was enjoyable overall. See more 09/10/2009 Mr. Moto is somewhat out of character but he does get to meet up with Charlie Chan's number one son, Lee (Keye Luke). It's a simple little ringside mystery. Be sure to look for Lon Chaney Jr. before he made it big in a bit part as a goon. Oops I gave away the ending!--Still enjoyed some laughs in this old crime drama. See more Read all reviews
