      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Madame Hyde has a handful of interesting ideas and a typically radiant performance from Isabelle Huppert, although it's all still a little less than the sum of its parts.

      J. R. Jones Chicago Reader The credits for this French horror comedy cite Robert Louis Stevenson as inspiration, but the more direct antecedent is Jerry Lewis's The Nutty Professor. Jun 21, 2018 Full Review Marjorie Baumgarten Austin Chronicle Even though Mrs. Hyde loses the trees for the forest, any movie starring Huppert is radiant, and it should be evident that tossing in a special effect or a message will be superfluous. Rated: 2.5/5 May 24, 2018 Full Review Alan Scherstuhl Village Voice The setup is laborious, but the payoff made me roar. Apr 27, 2018 Full Review Demitra Kampakis Vague Visages Madame Hyde crystallizes its views about the absurd limitations in trying to communicate the abstract gift of knowledge. Dec 12, 2023 Full Review Dustin Chang ScreenAnarchy Mrs. Hyde is a social commentary that packs a punch wrapped in a screwball comedy form. Highly recommended. Jul 17, 2020 Full Review Erin Blackwell Bay Area Reporter Although Mrs. Hyde leaves a lot to be desired, its storytelling wobbly, not for an instant did I feel that Huppert, now 65, was repeating herself. Bruce F If you are looking for outright entertainment- this is not it. If you are looking for a deeper movie that makes you think about what is really happening- I think this might be it. I watched it- thought about it and then went o wikipedia to get all the meaning. The key might be remembering what the name of the movie is and where it comes from. I have taught in this difficult situation and wished I had found that secret to success. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/19/22 Full Review andrei d Are o jumatate de idee dar nu se duce prea departe cu Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Here is yet another French film, pandering to the "school room for the disadvantaged" plot with a top actress in a miscast role. Isabelle Huppert is charming and vulnerable in her role, but the script is meaningless, predictable, and by the halfway point, one really doesn't care what happens to any of the characters. Here's a film that lacks distinct charm and counts on audience relatability to earn points. Give this one a pass, would neither re-watch nor recommend.
