When Cecil Ffolly-Hardwicke, co-owner of an ex-naval ship, dies suddenly, a string of similar deaths follows. Luckily, amateur sleuth Miss Marple (Margaret Rutherford) is around to investigate, deducing that Cecil was poisoned. Marple's further digging finds that the battleship -- ostensibly being used to rehabilitate troubled boys -- actually serves as a criminal training outfit run by the corrupt Lt. Compton (Francis Matthews). But is Compton the murderer, or is there more to the mystery?

Wesley Lovell Cinema Sight Murder Ahoy! is certainly a clever little trifle, but probably shouldn’t have been a Miss Marple film. Turning the series into a more farcical event is as far removed from Christie’s legendary works as it can get, but damned if it isn’t entertaining. Puccio Movie Metropolis ...without a Christie novel for guidance, this third (Rutherford) entry is the weakest of the lot. By far. HR G Dame Margaret Rutherford is THE antithesis of Marple in the books but for some reason this works and is amazing. I love this series of movies. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/18/24 Full Review joe m "Murder Ahoy", the fourth in MGM's Miss Marple films starring Margaret Rutherford, is the weakest of the series, yet still an enjoyable outing. While Rutherford is her usual indomitable self as Miss Marple, the plot is weak and the cast all seem a bit strained and not in top form in this outing. And the whole ship as a pseudo-Boys Town is a bit much. Unless you're a big fan of Rutherford, give it a pass. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review martin a A fantastic film, just a joy to watch from beginning to end. A wonderful cast, Margaret Rutherford's "Miss Marple"will never be bettered, she fits this role like cold hands need a glove. A great murder mystery. The sword fight at the end is a delight. Top marks and not a classic film to be missed. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member How we enjoy a move is very much dependent on our expectations. This is a classic British movie and is thoroughly charming for this. The term tongue in cheek is perfectly apt when describing a Margaret Rutherford film. This film was never intended to be a bum clenching murder mystery. It does though bring some wonderfully delivered lines from Charles 'Bud' Tingwell. If you want to enjoy a cosy Sunday afternoon, wrapped up warm against the rain and wind. Then this really is a 5 star film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member No Agatha Christie source material, and it shows. Pretty bad, kinda like bad fan fiction. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Hard to believe this moth-eaten nautical 'mystery' was made the same year as Goldfinger. Good character actors like Lionel Jeffries are reduced to wild over-acting to shore up the tedious plot and flat direction. Margaret Rutherford sails through it, imperious and jowly as ever.
