What to Know

Critics Consensus

A genially mediocre sequel to its similarly middling predecessor, Murder Mystery 2 could have been much better… and a whole lot worse.

Audience Says

Murder Mystery 2 has a few laughs and might even be better than the first one, but all in all, that really isn't saying much.

Stephen Romei The Australian It’s a Friday night movie; one to watch with a glass of something and the brain in sleep mode. Rated: 3/5 Apr 15, 2023 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Pyrotechnics are plentiful, but laughs are not. Rated: 2/4 Apr 3, 2023 Full Review Nina Metz Chicago Tribune Ding-dongs solving mysteries is a decent premise. But the house style of the movies is more celebrities-delivering-lines rather than its two leads committing to the camp of it all. Rated: 1.5/4 Apr 3, 2023 Full Review Mini Anthikad-Chhibber The Hindu The clues in ‘Murder Mystery 2’ are clever and inclusive, like the music at the ‘sangeet’ for a jolly travelogue pulled along smoothly on the rails of Aniston’s and Sandler’s considerable comic talent Aug 27, 2023 Full Review Gissane Sophia Marvelous Geeks Media While Murder Mystery 2 might lack depth and a concrete theme to balance the narrative, Aniston and Sandler make it an undeniable delight worth watching. Jul 20, 2023 Full Review Erik Childress Movie Madness Podcast Sandler and Aniston have such a breezy chemistry that we wish that this entire series had the kind of smarts and creativity to be found in the Knives Out films and TV's The AfterParty Rated: 2/4 Jun 15, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Stephen C LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/29/24 Full Review Joice R Fue mucho mejor que la primera película Fue buena Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/29/24 Full Review The Wandering D A fun and hilarious sequel to the first one, bringing back a bunch of characters. The first one is still better. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/11/24 Full Review Michael S The cinematography is good, enjoyed the mix of actors. But the comedy is lacking. It comes off as they are desperate for a laugh to a point it’s annoying. Too much back, and forth banter. The story line is lacking as well. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/07/24 Full Review Jay W You need to go into the movie with the right expectations. This is a straight to Netflix Adam Sandler action comedy. If you aren't a fan of Adam Sandler comedies, this isn't going to be the movie that wins you over. This follows the same tired tropes that Happy Madison Productions are known for. The movie does come across as an excuse for Sandler to go on vacation with some friends. Most of the humor comes from Sandler and crew riffing on each other and then reacting to the action movie events pointing out how absurd the circumstances are. If that type of humor is not for you, this film isn't going to work. I enjoyed this one more than the previous "Murder Mystery" movie. I thought the story was paced much better, the story was less convoluted, and the two leads bickering did not get on my nerves as much. The movie had a great action comedy sequence in the middle that was quite good. And, sans one glaring plot hole, the final action scene is surprisingly clever and suspenseful. I will say I didn't hate the film, but I acknowledge that it is not a good movie. The movie relies too heavily on the same jokes. All characters introduced are definitively one note. Sandler and Aniston spend the vast majority of the runtime being the one couple you do not want to hang out with at the party. Also, from a murder mystery standpoint, the movie does not give a compelling mystery or reveal. If you are looking for something like "Knives Out" but dumber, this may be the movie for you. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/01/24 Full Review Carter J It is definitely not as good as the 1st due to the fact it just doesn’t have as much true action and not as much suspense it felt like, still, at least it won’t waste your time.
