These films often portray following God, renouncing sin, or holding biblical convictions as harmful or cruel. Holiness is rarely shown as love, and obedience is framed as oppression. Instead of distinguishing between law and grace, everything is reduced to "religion," which is then cast as the villain. The gay character is consistently presented as the victim, while parents or believers are depicted as abusive or dangerous. This one-sided framing leaves no room for nuance, grace, or honest struggle. Grace, which establishes identity before behavior and transforms without coercion, is absent, leaving only rejection or affirmation. What’s missing is the truth that identity struggles stem from not knowing who we are in Christ.
