Elizabeth Weitzman New York Daily News When Anderson allows the experts - or simply those most deeply impacted by the changes - to speak, the film has a powerful urgency. Rated: 3/5 Jan 4, 2013 Full Review Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times Ms. Anderson traces a tale of aggressive rezoning, multimillion-dollar development deals and racial displacement. Rated: 3/5 Jan 3, 2013 Full Review Michael Nordine Village Voice The personal and political don't always align as well as they're meant to, but enough of the labor-of-love aspects shine through in a positive way to grant the film a genuine emotional core. Jan 2, 2013 Full Review Ethan Alter Film Journal International An intriguing depiction of urban gentrification in action, marred somewhat by an unnecessary dip into the first person. Audience Member Gentrification doesn't just happen. It's redlining, purposely planned and implemented by moneyed interests in collusion with government. Powerfully and poignantly exposes how wealthy investors operate in shadowy pseudo-governmental agencies like Economic Development Corporations to write, submit and pass rezoning and development plans that enrich themselves. Government is complicit, with no regard for residents and small businesses who have made this the third most successful shopping district in New York City for decades.
