A marriage undergoes the ultimate test--neither infidelity nor a faded flame, but the allure of technology. With incredible intimacy, filmmaker Susanna Cappellaro documents her husband Scott's decision to have an extrasensory device implanted into his body in order to increase his awareness of the world around him. As Scott goes further down this path, he can't understand his wife's resistance. And while Cappellaro documents herself struggling to understand their changing life, what might have been a science fiction becomes all the more human.

Leslie Felperin Guardian As a documentary about the world of body modification, it’s somewhat superficial and doesn’t really get under the skin, as it were... But the slow collapse of their relationship is oddly compelling -- if a bit sad -- to watch. Rated: 3/5 Feb 12, 2025 Full Review Hannah Cronk Film Threat At its core, the film explores the fragile nature of identity, the shifting boundaries of love, and the unforeseen consequences of chasing evolution. As it continues, it begins to feel mean-spirited and not as supportive as the synopsis would have you believe. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 13, 2025 Full Review Bethan Ackerley New Scientist At times, My Husband, the Cyborg feels like being trapped at a dinner party with the most exhausting couple you know. But the longer the experiment runs, the better the film gets. This very modern... love story makes for fraught and fascinating viewing. Feb 13, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Nico L If you saw Cyborg: A Documentary last year, you’ll be experiencing some déjà vu. Because My Husband the Cyborg covers a lot of that same ground—except this time, it’s through the lens of marriage. The film follows a guy who has chosen to integrate technology into himself, turning him into what can best be described as ‘a human with patch notes.’ His wife, meanwhile, has to navigate what that actually means for their relationship. And look, I get it—if your partner suddenly installs a Bluetooth receiver into their skull, date night is going to change. But at its core, this documentary isn’t just about one man—it’s about a movement that’s growing way faster than anyone is stopping to think about. This is where things get real interesting—and kinda disturbing. The documentary raises a lot of big questions: What does it actually mean to be human? At what point do we stop being people and start being… well, tech support? It talks about transhumanism, the push to merge with machines, and the idea that maybe—just maybe—people aren’t as excited about evolving as much as they are about showing off. Because let’s be real, a lot of these ‘enhancements’ aren’t really enhancements, they’re just… gadgets inside you instead of outside you. Like, why implant a chip to open your door when a key still works just fine? It feels less like human advancement and more like a Silicon Valley fever dream come to life And this is where we hit the big red warning light. Because, to quote the great Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park, ‘Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.’ And that’s exactly what’s happening here. These documentaries keep treating cyborg life as some groundbreaking leap forward, when in reality, it’s looking more and more like a reckless science experiment where we are the lab rats. The film doesn’t outright condemn this movement, but it definitely gives you that creeping what are we even doing? feeling So yeah, My Husband the Cyborg is definitely a conversation starter, and whether you’re all for tech integration or you’re still out here refusing software updates, it’s worth a watch. It’s eye-opening, a little terrifying, and a reminder that just because you can turn yourself into a walking motherboard… doesn’t mean you should Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/12/25 Full Review Pietro H I think the documentary is interesting and delicate. So human! Very different from the fast and breathless films that the industry demands, even though it talks about a very modern topic. And I would like to see more movies like this one. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/11/25 Full Review Kira H An extraordinary documentary. Relationships & technology & everything in between. You must watch !!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/25 Full Review Peter D A thought-provoking, well made documentary. Simultaneously entertaining and informative, it tells a very personal story whilst exploring some of the biggest themes of our time, A true achievement.
