John Oursler Village Voice As in too much queer cinema, Naked is weighed down by wooden, charisma-free hunks in leading roles, but McWilliams proves a revelation whose passionate performance more than compensates for the distracting eye candy. Jan 21, 2014 Full Review Joe Neumaier New York Daily News Writer and director Richard LeMay's film plays from the heart, sometimes almost too blatantly. But on the whole, it nicely underscores how silences and shouts often come from the same place. Rated: 3/5 Sep 12, 2013 Full Review Anita Gates New York Times Here is the way it should happen when a family says goodbye: Making peace. Making connections. Smelling the orchids. Seeing the light. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 12, 2013 Full Review J.C. Maçek III PopMatters On the other hand, when LeMay focuses on family drama and lets the calmer moments (albeit with roiling emotions just under the surface) rule the movie. Audience Member As in too much queer cinema, Naked is weighed down by wooden, charisma-free hunks in leading roles, but McWilliams proves a revelation whose passionate performance compensates for the distracting eye candy. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A slight tale about a gravely ill mother who summons her son and daughter home as she is dying. the son takes an interest in the gardener who has secrets of his own Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Some interesting ideas get buried by a dull script and wooden acting.. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member The cover sums it up. Pretty chest & blank stares... of boredom? Probably. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member A family drama about siblings coming home to visit their mother and discovering she is much sicker than they knew. She has also taken in a roommate, a young man who serves as groundkeeper, cook, or maybe something else entirely. There is nothing too melodramatic in the movie. The primary movement is toward character growth, with revelations, bickering and reconciliations that are fairly predictable. The small ensemble does well with the material. I found Ryan Vigilant as Elliot especially captivating as the quiet gay son scarred by a familiy secret and how his family has treated him over the years, but finding in saying goodbye to his mother the means to take control over his own life. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review egidijus s Another family drama with a taste of queerness - that's how I can sum up this movie. Laura and Elliot, brother and sister, rush to country side estate to visit they dying mother Lilly. And she's not alone, but living with handsome stranger Ted. Like in another same type movie, mother is very nostalgic, always crying and remembering how bad she was. Laura is angry on everyone and Elliot with Ted fall into romantic feelings. S. Lue McWilliams (dying mother) did a great job in this movie, it's beautifully shot, but on some moments it was just boring to watch and just waited to see half naked bodies of Elliot (Ryan Vigilant) and Ted (Benjamin Weaver).
