The mere existence of the Malayalam-language film is enough to suggest that the movie gods have a sense of humour. The CBFC can block Santosh, but while they were abusing their power, Narivetta snuck under their nose. Go to Full Review

Narivetta is a hard-hitting and necessary film - one that holds a mirror up to the machinery of the state and in portraying the injustices meted out to the scheduled tribal communities that we so often ignore. Go to Full Review

The decision to centre this story on Varghese highlights the crucial issue of perspective. Is Narivetta a story that is ultimately for Varghese to tell? Go to Full Review

Narivetta, despite its shortcomings, works given its subject. The casting is apt, but the talent feels under-utilised. Go to Full Review

Jul 29 Narivetta directed by Anurag Manohar and written by Abhin Joseph is based on the real life Muthanga Tribal protests in 2003. The broad storyline of Narivetta encompasses different themes like land rights, state misusing its authority and the determination of marginalized communities. The first half is somewhat sluggish with an unnecessary love track but once the main conflict of Adivasis fight begins it starts to engage. My brief take on the movie available in own website rigoberthareviews.com See more Sachin E @sachineldho Jul 26 Although the movie helps in creating awareness about police brutality against tribals in Kerala, it does not serve justice to the victims or the tribals, as it otherizes the tribal community by portraying them as aliens. When it comes to story selection from mollywood Tovino wears all the hats! Just watched "Narivetta" and I'm absolutely blown away by your performance! The way you portrayed the character's internal conflict, his journey from reluctance to a deep understanding of justice, was incredibly powerful. It's such a bold and essential story that "Narivetta" tells, and your acting truly brought its important message to the forefront. You made me feel every bit of his struggle and his eventual resolve. Thank you for giving us such a powerful and thought-provoking performance! Whether this message finds you or not, as a fan, I felt compelled to share how deeply your portrayal resonated with me. Verdict: Semi-Hit. See more Lucky01 Jul 11 Narivetta (2025) is based on real events. The last 30 minutes are intense and gripping, Rest of the movie feels like a stretched. Jakes Bejoy’s background score stands out as the film’s biggest strength. See more arvind s May 28 Narivetta had everything going for it. A gritty premise (based on true events), a stellar cast and a filmmaker known for his stellar debut. Narivetta gets a lot of it right, but there are still some things that could have been better, especially the pacing and the predictability. Set in Wayanad in 2003, a group of tribals are engaged in a peaceful protest regarding their land. A battalion of police is sent to maintain peace. But all hell breaks loose after an incident and a tribal is shot dead. Caught between all of this is Varghese, a new joinee, who doesn't even want to be there. Narivetta has brilliant cinematography. The shots are surreal, captures the beauty of Wayanad in all its glory. Add Jakes Bejoy's score to that; it is just magical. Tovino Thomas's Varghese is definitely one of his finer performances. But he shines mostly in the 2nd half given the events of the first half are a little too stretched out. Suraj Venjaramoodu continues his brilliant streak with yet another compelling performance as Basheer, a police officer, who looks out for Varghese. Tamil actor Cheran plays Keshavadas, who heads the police unit deployed in Wayanad. Arya Salim is brilliant as the spokesperson for the tribals. Like I mentioned earlier, Narivetta gets all this right but it isn't engaging all throughout. For instance, the first half drags out Varghese's love story. Though that portion is important in showing Varghese's character traits when he gets into the police, it could have been trimmed. The predictability factor is a disappointment as you can smell it coming from a mile away. But what saves the movie is the climax. The slo-mo shots are used appropriately, the atrocities against the tribals by the police, the horror of it all is shot and depicted with a brutal and unforgiving lens. See more Read all reviews
