Actor-turned-director Céline Sallette makes an impressive debut with this vibrant portrait of French-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle, brought to life by Charlotte Le Bon (The White Lotus). Paris, 1952. Niki has recently moved from the US with her husband and daughter. Despite this newfound distance from a family and country that were suffocating her, disturbing flashbacks of her childhood continue to invade her thoughts. From the hell she is about to discover, Niki will find in her art a weapon to free herself.

Jessica Kiang Variety It’s a shame that Sallette’s film, ultimately conventional despite some stylish split-screen and Le Bon’s intricate performance, couldn’t have been just a little inspired by the same spirit of iconoclasm. May 30, 2024 Full Review Nadine Whitney AWFJ.org Niki is undeniably stylish and well shot but it lacks precision. Charlotte Le Bon’s excellent performance as the artist Niki de Saint-Phalle isn’t enough to make Niki a fully embodied film. Rated: 2.5/5 Mar 5, 2025 Full Review Àngel Quintana Caimán Cuadernos de Cine Céline Sallette makes a conventional, uninspired biopic. [Full review in Spanish] Jul 27, 2024 Full Review Sarah Manvel In Their Own League An ordinary story about an extraordinary woman and that is meant as a compliment. Jun 1, 2024 Full Review Diego Batlle Otroscines.com This story of resilience and overcoming is narrated in a way that is too obvious, pedestrian, underlined, calculated, and with many biopic clichés. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 2/5 May 28, 2024 Full Review Olivia Popp Cineuropa It’s easy to side with Le Bon’s Niki and her strong-willed nature when placed in a patriarchal environment that dismisses women as hysterical, but it’s not enough to fully get a grasp on why the artist should be truly memorable for the viewer.
