Michael S A rewatch might be needed but I still thought that this was a pretty solid coming of age movie. I really adored the 70s aesthetic to it and the music choices fit perfectly. The young leading actresses are all fantastic too. The thing that I don't really like about it is definitely the "Now" scenes, they just drag this movie out. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review Haylee E It should be a crime that this movie only has 33%. It is a beautiful movie! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/24 Full Review Ashley O Ok so, this is top 5 one of my favorite movies. However, I still need to give it a fair review, so it does not have 5 stars. Here is why: the movie could have actually been better without the adult cast of the girls grown up. They were all weird casting choices for the portrayal of the younger counterpart. For example, they have Melanie Griffith playing a flighty dumb blonde but Thora Burch her childhood counter part was not like that. Rosie O'Donnell a very weird choice for an adult Christina Ricci and while Rita Wilson got the personality part right for the adult version of Chrissy, the physical match was off. Demi Moore was the only somewhat believable casting choice. Powerful performances by Ricci and Hoffmann, Thora Birch was still growing as far as acting talent in 1994 but showed potential; if they were set on Melanie Griffith as the adult counterpart then they should've gone with someone else. I think they could have just had it be a visit to the past with an adult narrator and the film actually been better. This is a total chick flick and I don't see any man "getting" this film or enjoying it. But anyone who has ever been a 12 year old girl will love it no matter her age now! A great sleepover film with a heart warming story and life lessons in there some you won't understand until you're an adult. Part of what doesn't make the film work is that we don't see enough of these character's adult lives so the ending message its hard to connect with. Still one of my all time favorite films despite its flaws. Will probably still watch this every summer until I die! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/02/23 Full Review Cinetik F reminds me of good memories in my childhood Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/14/23 Full Review Melissa H Such a beautiful story about friendship and how time can drift us apart but it never erases the bonds we made growing up. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/14/22 Full Review Audience Member this was fine; i didn't grow up watching this film so i had no nostalgic ties to it - & it's not bad, but as a few others have pointed out already nothing really happens & I'm not sure it teaches you anything or really has a point. it's just a story. kind of a boring one. I'm not sure i'd go out of my way to recommend it, but it was fine if you don't have anything better to watch. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

There is a sensible balance between girlish wonder and the sense of impending adulthood. Rated: 3/4 Mar 1, 2022 Full Review Margaret A. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 19, 2021 Full Review Sezín Koehler Black Girl Nerds Often referred to as the Stand By Me for girls - a most superficial comparison that in lots of ways cheapens both films, watering them down to gender stereotypes - Now and Then has its lighthearted moments of comedy as the girls' adventures unfold.
