Moira MacDonald Seattle Times A rather silly, unbelievable thriller. Rated: 2/4 Apr 9, 2015 Full Review Brad Wheeler Globe and Mail Filmmaker Nadda's stock-in-trade is restraint, but October Gale builds up to nothing much. Rated: 2/4 Mar 27, 2015 Full Review Liz Braun Toronto Sun October Gale is a quiet thriller set in the wilds of Georgian Bay. It's an uneven movie with some odd jolts in the story, but the performances -- especially from Patricia Clarkson -- are noteworthy. Rated: 3/5 Mar 26, 2015 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse A thriller without many thrills, but lots of soul. Nadda does not slavishly try and ape Hitchcock or the other masters of the genre, but follows her heart instead. Rated: 3/5 Feb 2, 2021 Full Review Julie Crawford North Shore News (Vancouver, B.C.) A portrait of grief quickly evolves into a cabin-in-the-woods thriller in October Gale, which shows just how strong - and silly - lone women can be. Rated: 5/10 Apr 18, 2019 Full Review Jared Mobarak The Film Stage When I wasn't laughing at the absurdity of where things go I was bored out of my mind waiting for long silent stares hiding nothing to finally turn into action. joe m I made it all the way through "October Gale" yet that is slight praise at best. The film is basically Patricia Clarkson and Scott Speedman uncomfortably making it through a fall storm in her posh Canadian summer cabin on Georgian Bay. He washes ashore with a gun shot wound and she's a doctor who tends to him. That is the clearest element of the movie. The rest is flashbacks of Clarkson idyllic marriage, her husband killed in a similar storm, and Speedman being very cagey about why he was shot. Then it becomes a cat-and-mouse game when the failed killers track Speedman down. Just a very muddled movie and not very compelling. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review ronald h Patricia Clarkson is excellent, but she can't save this draggy, uneventful "thriller." The thrills are pretty much nonexistent. Even the climactic event is hurried and rather boring, as well as predictable. The story raises many questions that are unanswerable. Why would this sensible, middle aged woman risk her life for a stranger? Why is she attracted to him in the first place? Character development would help, but there is very little. Why does the storm, which we are told is the "worst since last October," conveniently disappear in the last act? The title of the film is "October Gale," but the storm plays no real part in the action and is pretty much irrelevant. This is one of those mismanaged films that doesn't know where it wants to go. Aimless and unimpressive. 2 1/2 stars for Clarkson. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member This was one of the worst movies I've seen in my entire life. I wish there was some way I could get that 90 mins back - such a waste of time. This "thriller" leads up to NOTHING. My advice? Do yourself a favor and find something else to watch. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved it.. Anything with Patricia Clarkson is always great. Such a good actress. Scott Speedman is always good to look at. I thought it had a great storyline and was on the edge of my seat at times. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member The beautiful cinematography really makes this movie visually pleasing but the slow pace of events and dull storyline make its failure inevitable. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review farah r With such a good story it's a crime this thriller turned out as horrible as it did. The acting was terrible and the pace was achingly slow.
