      Critics Consensus

Despite a couple of electrifying action sequences, Octopussy is a formulaic, anachronistic Bond outing.

alan g Tepid movie but the best Bond movie intro ever. Childish plot. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review Benjamin H Although it has some decent action towards the end with some sprints of charms here and there, Octopussy is overall a tired, uninteresting and choppy Bond film that is substantially devoid of personality with poor character handling. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/22/23 Full Review Adi 1 This is one of the most jokey films in the entire franchise but at the same time it relishes it in that sense. Even though Roger Moore was too old at this time and the finale could have been much better. Overall, an okay movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/14/23 Full Review nick s It started off well, but quickly descended into silly gags that kept killing the tension. I guess if I was 12 I'd think the idea of pulling a sword out of a sword swallowers throat and using it in the middle of an action scene was about as cool as it gets. But at my age I find it hard to swallow. Editing was a bit sloppy too. The sets and costumes were very impressive but got comical near the end (honestly, what was Xena doing there?) On the positive side, the movie had a lot of eye candy to compensate for it's shortfalls. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/17/23 Full Review Justin B An enjoyable Bond movie with the typical formula. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/28/23 Full Review Kev F It's an okay movie and at least it's still entertaining. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Bob Thomas Associated Press "Octopussy" is the 13th of the James Bond movies, and it is one of the best. Oct 17, 2018 Full Review Gary Arnold Washington Post It's a pleasure to report that the James Bond company is confidently back on the beam. Oct 6, 2015 Full Review Dave Kehr Chicago Reader Glen's willingness to give the action sequences a certain weight and seriousness produces some genuinely exciting moments, yet his work is everywhere undermined by the flatness of the characterizations and the uncertain architecture of the plot. Oct 13, 2008 Full Review Carson Timar ButteredPopcorn It is a slow and drawn out film that tries but fails to engages. Rated: C- Aug 28, 2022 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy I've seen the Bond movies countless times over the decades, and this title above all is the one that fluctuates the most from one viewing to the next. Rated: 3/4 Sep 25, 2021 Full Review Jake Tropila Film Inquiry It's an easy film to hate (and often paints a big target on its back encouraging you to do so), but it works perfectly as a piece of entertainment, where the good ultimately outweighs the bad.
