What to Know

Critics Consensus

Its cast of gifted comics is good for a handful of laughs, but Office Christmas Party's overstuffed plot ultimately proves roughly as disappointing as its clichéd gags and forced sentimentality.

Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online Maybe it's because of all the depressing news... or ... the holidays and we are in dire need to see something lighthearted and, frankly, stupid right now, but this is temporarily satisfying. I guess that's all we can ask for this moment. Rated: C- Mar 22, 2017 Full Review Donald Clarke Irish Times A big waste of much top-flight talent. Rated: 2/5 Dec 30, 2016 Full Review Thomas Hale Financial Times The film, for all its failures, works as an effective catalogue of life in the modern-day office, an assortment of absurdities, fictions and religious rituals that we somehow mistook for normal. Brandon I loved it and wish all Christmas parties were like this. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/18/22 Full Review G A true Christmas classic of our generation. This movie deserves a sequel. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/31/21 Full Review Mark J One of those comedies where they had some jokes they wanted to film and then had to think of a plot around it. Overall a few laughs but nothing to elevate it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review Harry S This show is packed with talent and really delivers some raunchy Christmas laughs and some outrageous, over the top, outta control party action. Jennifer Aniston plays the heavy, the CEO of the company, trying to close her brother's branch of the family business. Some people love Hallmark movies at Christmas, I love this. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/21/24 Full Review Camelia F Why was this made? Who paid for this? Did someone go to film school and write this? If so, were the 12 year olds at middle school helping them? A couple of one liners stood out but with this many hard hitting actors it had to be a favor, a shot in the dark, or a pay off. Have dudes turned into permanent adolescents? The best character was played by Olivia Munn. What a waste of an amazing actress. This screams a comedy head writer alley dump. Here is the silver lining: I am not that mad at it just sad this was funded. And it shows anyone can write a shitty screenplay. So, if you are in NYC and can sideline a producer on the L Train you should make a film with major actors somehow. Otherwise someone made you do it at Rockefeller center. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/20/24 Full Review TROY S All of it was really funny and wonderfully acted. Office Christmas Party is aware of its genre and plays to it perfectly.
