Jay S This movie about a narcistic man of self pity. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/20/24 Full Review Steve D Pointless aimless followup missing the best part of Love Story, Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/14/23 Full Review Kelly A This isn't rated highly but I love this movie! It's a beautiful portrayal about Oliver coming to terms with so many things but I think chiefly about his value system clashing with what he assumed was his father's value system, and the whole "wealthy WASP culture" in which he was immersed. He also made assumptions about Marci's value system which was not entirely true either. I could go on and on about how I think Jenny represented a blend of values that was a "modern ideal" to Oliver. I have this opinion from reading Love Story and watching the movie. There's the obvious theme about loss and grief - and Ryan O'Neil does portray that so well in my opinion. His shows his heartbreak. Anyway - I think both movies/novels are brilliant in their exploration of values, set in the context of events everyone eventually experiences (for relatability?) - love and loss. I'd love to sit down and ask Eric Segal more about my theory! We don't always contemplate or question real values and our own behaviors and personal responsibilities in deep and meaningful ways anymore, if ever. Oh yes things are hotly debated in shallow "us/them" ways today. Much about our current culture feels showy, ridiculous and trite to me (what I experience - maybe I'm not hanging out with the right people when I hang out at all). I think Eric Segal did more than just write Love Story for the obvious, well, love story. It's kind of like the use of science fiction settings to explore ideas and values - only he used "love story fiction". The love story seems to get more of the focus. And since the story is essentially over in the second movie - few get anything out of it at all! But it is a true continuation of Oliver's main values struggle in the first movie/book. I wish more had been done to highlight Oliver overhearing how his father preserved the mill and thus employment for its workers by investing half a million $$ of his money. It was such a turning point for Oliver. These are the things, if we pay attention, that help us "grow up" - to stop stereotyping others. I think Oliver's father was a bit astonished to then hear Oliver say he resented the mill as it took his father away too much. Some 30 or so years into Oliver's life they finally see each other and connect. I think this movie exemplifies our need to talk AND listen more and know there are multiple facets to all we perceive. I think this movie does this so well! Maybe the values exploration is too subtle for most? Anyway - I love this movie!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Fairly satisfying as a sequel, but far too weak to stand on its own. Altogether unremarkable in every way, really. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member A lack luster sequel to Love Story. This story is boring, and not worth telling if you ask me. I suggest just watching Love Story and forgetting about this stupid sequel. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Awesome! Must see!!
