      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

On the Line starts with a solid concept, but it's quickly undone by a story that stumbles over its own twists on the way to a disaster of an ending.

From the acting to the plot to the ridiculous ending, pretty much nothing in On the Line works.

Fredricco N Absolutely, positively, unbelievably the worst movie in my 47yrs, I've ever seen. Complete waste of my time and film. Should've just cut the lawn or got that much needed root canal. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review ashley l I created this account just to write that “On The Line” is the worst movie I have ever seen in my life and I have seen my fair share of movies. I am appalled in every sense of the word. If you are thinking of watching this film, don’t think, just keep scrolling through the queue until you can find a movie that actually has a real plot and acting. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review debbie f I'm almost through watching this stupid, unimaginable flick. It's nothing new, been done before and much better. Mel Gibson over acted his roll...the guy on the phone sounds like the wimpy kid that never grew a pair. His voice is so irritating it made this already bad film even more difficult to watch. It had to be a low budget movie because it only had a handful of people in it...and half of the handful half way through weren't in it. No one called the police when they should have..and then only one cop showed up that couldn't see the bomb strapped to the doors handles that I could see from my couch. Well...Mel Gibson did say "what kind of B grade movie bullshit is this" during the movie......so..maybe it's a comedy and I had it all wrong.. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review Michael P It's Like reading a book only for it to be a coma induced dream at the end. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/17/24 Full Review Ryan I enjoy Mel Gibson movies, but the guy who was on the phone the whole time in this movie "Gary" has a super annoying voice and everything his character said was just stupid. He doesnt sound scary or intimidating at all which is what it sounds like they were attempting to go for he sounds like an sissy, imature kid. Its an okay movie but they shouldve casted someone else for that part. That guy totally ruins the movie. It is a good plot and couldve been a much better movie. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/16/24 Full Review Nathan M Just watch Phone Booth unless you want to watch Mel Gibson, man of the people, talk down to everyone and get paid for it this time. And of course, a little God is good thrown in.. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) This is a really good Mel Gibson film. Nov 30, 2022 Full Review Jake Wilson The Age (Australia) [Mel Gibson's] curmudgeonly persona has hardened to a point that leaves limited room to modulate, which is a problem when we’re meant to believe Elvis is living through the worst night of his life, rather than just another Tuesday. Rated: 1.5/5 Nov 17, 2022 Full Review Jesse Hassenger Decider A vengeful caller sending a frazzled shock-jock on an overnight odyssey isn’t a bad idea. But On the Line is the kind of movie that thinks it can win the game with a Hail Mary pass in the last ten minutes. Mar 26, 2024 Full Review Abhishek Srivastava The Times of India The initial excitement dissipates... Rated: 2.5/5 Mar 27, 2023 Full Review Terry Staunton Radio Times The acting is across-the-board woeful, with Gibson all-but sleepwalking through his role, and the preposterous denouement serves only to compound viewers' suspicions that the whole affair has been a waste of their time. Rated: 1/5 Mar 23, 2023 Full Review Alex Saveliev Film Threat A few snappy one-liners courtesy of a confident lead sadly don’t make up for, well, everything else.
