jon c HBO presents another one of their many biopics. Based on a true story of one man's personal battle to fight the higher power of corruption. Anthony Hopkins plays Joel Filartiga, a Paraguay activist/doctor in 1976. He sees the duplicity in the dictatorship of the country treating its citizens. Most have their land properly seized or burned to the ground by guerrilla soldiers. He takes a stand to correct human rights violations which sadly results in the death of his own son. The officials halt Joel at any expense to make them accountable but he refuses to back down. This is a surefire performance by Hopkins. The man has so much range playing a father and freedom advocate in the name of great change. Plus it's important to witness the shady, bureaucratic nature of a country bearing down on its citizens. But today the nightmare continues for a lot of families facing such mistreatment. This family in particular struggled for so long to get proper justice. The fight is hard but even Joel and his loved ones stood together against a powerful system covered in lies.
