What to Know

Critics Consensus

Worth watching for Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton's performances alone, Only Lovers Left Alive finds writer-director Jim Jarmusch adding a typically offbeat entry to the vampire genre.

The film is mostly a fun, sweet character study, but it's enjoyable flow is marred periodically by its own desire to be cool. Go to Full Review

Somewhere around the lovely scene of Tilda Swinton dancing, freely and wholeheartedly, to the old soul record, Jarmusch's M.O. becomes clear: 'Only Lovers Left Alive' is a hanging-out move, just with vampires. Go to Full Review

This is a film that finds horror not in the extreme, but in the mundane. That alone makes it a worthwhile entry in a genre that it both inhabits and rises above. Go to Full Review

For being such a cool movie, there is something shockingly lame and relatable about a vampire just sinking down the rabbit hole of his pet interests, collecting rare guitars, and remixing his own compositions into oblivion. Go to Full Review

Regardless of how you embrace that theme, the way it's presented and executed here is flawless. The performances are amazing and the way Jarmusch uses this kind of world is simply fun. Go to Full Review

REALESTATEOWNERSHIP T @Shervin Dec 26 If I’m not giving it 1 star is only because of the beautiful cinematography scenes as well as the musics chosen. As for the movie itself, this is probably the most pointless movie ever made. You’d be puzzled the whole time trying to figure out "ok? So?" There are a lot better options for killing time that to watch this movie! See more Ellis Y Nov 1 I found this movie boring as hell. It's got some nice cinematography but was just too slow pace and very little really happened. I guess if you like mundane realistic story lines you'd probably like this but I certainly did not. See more Sergio A @Sergio83 Jul 27 It undoubtedly has merits in terms of visuals, acting, and music; however, in the end, it’s merely a film about vampires who love each other, for better or worse. See more Isabella S May 3 It was good but too slow for my taste See more Kobe H Mar 23 The eternal love and struggle between a man and a woman was so accurately depicted. Genius plot and act.
