Audience Member I liked every short, and was especially charmed by the winner, "Mr. Hublot." Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Should've seen these first. There were a few standouts, but nothing that screamed perfection. And I swear, if I ever see that ostrich and giraffe again... - "Get a Horse!": 3.5 out of 5. Gets a bit less special with every viewing, but still light and cute fun. - "Mr. Hublot": 4 out of 5. Really great, but not quite perfect. The animation is gorgeous, and Hublot's relationship with the dog is kind of beautiful. - "Feral": 3.5 out of 5. Started off really strong, but then things got weird. Awesome animation though. - "Possessions": 3 out of 5. Wanted to like this one a lot more than I did. The thing looks great, but the story was way too loose for me. - "Room on the Broom": 4.5 out of 5. Now THIS was great. Normally I hate the whole structure of these Team Gruffalo shorts, but this was really sweet and lovable. - "A La Francaise": 2 out of 5. Ok, now this was just stupid. How the fuck did they get away with this? - "The Missing Scarf": 1 out of 5. Terrible. Just awful. - "The Blue Umbrella": 4 out of 5. Again, it's Paperman. But the animation is pretty as hell and so is the music, so why complain? Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I'll quote my 2013 review: "I love the showcase of solid animation. A worthwhile watch by any standard. I'm not sure about the host segments though." Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member The animated shorts were mostly entertaining. The clear front runner for the actual award is the Mickey Mouse film "Get a Horse" that played before "Frozen" and it is good a second time. For the others, I really liked "Mr. Hublot" about a man and his robot pet, the animation was terrific and it was a nice story. "Room on the Broom" about a witch and her crowded broom is also fun, though since it's based on a children's story is a bit simplistic. The Japanese fable, "Possessions" is interesting and well drawn... but I did not care for "Feral" as it was a bit too weird for my tastes... The package I saw also included a few films that were not nominated, including Pixar's "Blue Umbrella" which should have been nominated over Feral and a couple of others that I did not really care for. Still, if you can catch this package of films before the Oscars you should. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member We saw the 2014 Oscar-Nominated Animated Short Films yesterday at the Regency/South Coast Plaza. It was well worth the drive! We loved "Is There Room on the Broom?" Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Every year, these animated shorts do not let me down. Creative, fun, and always worth my time. I loved all but one this year. And I love it that bonus shorts were included. Excellent use of my time. Thank you! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
