Patrick Osborne

Dabbling in surfing penguins, longhaired princesses, and video game villains, Patrick Osborne handled a vast array of different themes and styles in his years starting out as a big screen animator. But even after working on high profile projects like Disney's feature-length projects "Tangled" (2010) and "Wreck-It Ralph" (2012), Osborne experienced his first true taste of glory with a much more esoteric short film: "Feast" (2014), his delightful six-minute directorial debut, which won Osborne an Academy Award. Patrick Osborne was born in 1981 in Green Township, Ohio. He went on to study computer animation at the Ringling College of Art and Design in Florida. Shortly after graduating in 2003, Osborne began finding work in animation. He began providing visual effects for CGI-laden live action movies like "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" (2005) and "I Am Legend" (2007), but advanced quickly to full-fledged animation work. His first animated feature was "Surf's Up" (2007), a quirky mockumentary-style cartoon about surfing penguins. Despite general critical favor and an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature, the film failed to attract mass audiences domestically or overseas. Osborne's next feature, the Disney-produced film "Bolt" (2008), did substantially better at the box office and maintained general critical praise. It would be Osborne's following endeavors, however, that would grant him a wealth of unprecedented personal success. Osborne was an animator for the outrageously popular Disney princess movie "Tangled" (2010), a chipper adaptation of the Cinderella fairy tale, as well as on the studio's video game-themed film "Wreck-It Ralph" (2012). The latter was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 85th Academy Awards. Additionally, Osborne found great success in the short film game. First, he played supervising producer on the romantic and whimsical short film "Paperman" (2012), which played before showings of "Wreck-It Ralph." Like its feature-length screening partner, "Paperman" earned an Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards, winning in the category of Best Animated Short. Partnering with Disney further, Osborne made his directorial debut on the short film "Feast" (2014), the six-minute-long story of a Boston terrier with a ravenous appetite. Following in the footsteps of "Paperman," the film won Best Animated Short at the 87th Academy Awards.
