Stephen Romei The Australian A thought-provoking exploration of the idea of true love. Rated: 3.5/4 Dec 7, 2024 Full Review David Rooney The Hollywood Reporter An achingly tender pas de deux. Sep 12, 2023 Full Review Jonathan Romney Screen International Such a film - essentially a two-hander - totally relies on the chemistry of its leads, and the gentle, tentative interplay between Canet and Rohrwacher gels beautifully. Sep 8, 2023 Full Review Leigh Paatsch Herald Sun (Australia) Though the movie is fated to end in ways that some will find most unsatisfactory, there is an authenticity to the exchanges shared between these two that keeps you hanging on their every word. Marco L (ENGLISH) This delicate cinematic romance serves as a mature reflection on love and second chances. With a slow-paced narrative and an elegant visual style, the film blends melancholy and restrained emotion, delivering a deeply intimate and moving experience. The chemistry between Alba Rohrwacher and Guillaume Canet is the heart of the story. Their performances, filled with subtlety and honesty, convey the emotional complexities of their characters without overacting. Their gestures and glances speak as much as their dialogue, creating a genuine connection that captivates the audience. Stéphane Brizé's direction, arguably among his best work, showcases great sensitivity in tackling universal themes such as the passage of time, life choices, and the impact of past relationships. The film unfolds at a measured pace that, while it may feel prolonged at times, aligns well with its contemplative and romantic tone. Visually, the film is captivating, with cinematography that enhances the elegance of each scene and complements the emotional weight of the story. The intelligent script avoids unnecessary twists, maintaining engagement through dialogues that balance humor and depth. In conclusion, Out of Season is a mature and reflective love story that moves without veering into sentimentality. It stands out as a remarkable work, proving that romantic stories can be as intense as they are understated, leaving a lasting impression on the viewer. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/25 Full Review Mariella B Out of Season is a small masterpiece whose strong point is the masterful acting of the two protagonists, both in a state of grace in the roles played. The melancholy of time that passes inexorably and closes the doors to "what perhaps would have been" is punctuated by the dry notes of a piano and the gusts of wind that sweep an inhospitable beach and smooth the sharp stones of a small cliff. Everything is in perfect balance in the stability of adulthood but the vital impetus of feelings is dead, imprisoned in the choice of what is best to do or buried by the fear of jeopardizing the consolidated routine. A wonderful film that I would watch again immediately. Vive la France! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/01/25 Full Review Audience Member Exhaustingly drawn out example of privileged indulgence and justification of breaking trust Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/24/24 Full Review Simon H A vapid, pretentious, meandering marathon of a movie with several cameo performances which were difficult to endure. It seemed to last much longer than its advertised running time of 1 hour and 46 minutes, time which we'll never get back. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/09/24 Full Review Read all reviews
