Long ago, legions of monstrous creatures called Kaiju arose from the sea, bringing with them all-consuming war. To fight the Kaiju, mankind developed giant robots called Jaegers, designed to be piloted by two humans locked together in a neural bridge. However, even the Jaegers are not enough to defeat the Kaiju, and humanity is on the verge of defeat. For a film that seemed to come out of nowhere with minimal advertising and hype at the time of release, it quickly became one of my favorite sci-fi films of all time. Everything from the story to the visuals is incredibly well done. The Gundam-inspired big mechs absolutely bodying giant alien creatures is super intense with every encounter and never gets old. The character performances are also spot-on with some emotional backstories. Charlie Day is hilarious as always! Overall, one of the best "sleeper" sci-fi films to date and super fun to watch every time!

Del Toro is a dreamer. He's a visionary. If you give him a pile of money to make enormous robots fight enormous monsters at the end of civilization, he will work to make Pacific Rim a movie that makes you feel all the enormousness.
