Mitch B For a film that seemed to come out of nowhere with minimal advertising and hype at the time of release, it quickly became one of my favorite sci-fi films of all time. Everything from the story to the visuals is incredibly well done. The Gundam-inspired big mechs absolutely bodying giant alien creatures is super intense with every encounter and never gets old. The character performances are also spot-on with some emotional backstories. Charlie Day is hilarious as always! Overall, one of the best "sleeper" sci-fi films to date and super fun to watch every time! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review Roshan S The 2nd one is good, but this one is 2 OP for TV. I had the blue ray and I rewatched everyday of summer Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review Jackie G Remarkable cgi not quite til perfection but definitely a re watcher Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/02/24 Full Review Matt R A great adventure of giant robots versus giant monsters with the style and story that is clearly from Guillermo del Toro. Don't think too hard and enjoy the movie your inner 12 year old dreamed about. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Abigail L Giant mecha fighting giant monsters with epic music, compelling characters, and beautiful effects. A more perfect movie does not exist. Wesley Morris Grantland Del Toro is a dreamer. He's a visionary. If you give him a pile of money to make enormous robots fight enormous monsters at the end of civilization, he will work to make Pacific Rim a movie that makes you feel all the enormousness. Jan 3, 2014 Full Review Anthony Quinn Independent (UK) Pacific Rim is a special-effects behemoth, a toy franchise with a deafeningly loud movie attached -- Transformers with an A-level. Rated: 1/5 Dec 30, 2013 Full Review Giles Hardie Sydney Morning Herald In essence, Pacific Rim features a series of Godzilla monsters battle an ever dwindling number of Transformers, layered over the plot from Independence Day, only dumber. Rated: 2.5/5 Dec 30, 2013 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Proves that Guillermo del Toro is a master of many genres, as he accomplishes with this film things that countless other big-budget spectacles attempt to pull off. Pure delight from start to finish, channeling the best that kaiju movies have to offer. Rated: 5/5 Sep 20, 2023 Full Review Ruth Maramis FlixChatter Film Blog Del Toro delivers a visual feast without falling into the ‘style over substance’ trap. Plenty of eye candy and thrilling action, but not devoid of emotion, what’s not to like? Rated: 4.5/5 Aug 11, 2023 Full Review Graeme Tuckett Stuff.co.nz If you have to make films about giant robots fighting sea monsters, then I reckon this is the way to make them.
