      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

After testing viewers' endurance with a pair of discomfitingly bleak films, Seidl concludes his Paradise trilogy on a surprisingly sensitive note.

richard i Though the style of filming is an acquired taste (that I do not necessarily have), there is no doubting the skill of the film-maker and the sincerity of his desire to show the darkest side of love and passion. Easily the most successful of the trilogy, for me, it shows a very different side of the potentially disastrous adult-child sexual attraction trope, one that I would suggest has never been seen before and may never be seen again, which makes it worth investigating for that alone. Ultimately what is astonishing about the film is how it engages you on the side of the potential child molester and leaves you at the end feeling a little sorry for him. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member You can give this a go if you want to explore the problems among adolescents in Austria. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Seidl's movie is very interesting, not to mention the amazing shots and angles. He has that in every single one of the trilogy movie. He makes you see everything in a more poetic way. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member A bit too improvising. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member The last of the Paradise trilogy and all three were amazing. The filming, narrative and editing is so real you marvel at Ulrich Seidl's insight into people. For me the meaning of the trilogy is about the problems and suffering brought about by being human and the more human or feeling and caring you are the greater the suffering. But they persist on. They abide. We all abide. Farran Smith Nehme New York Post This is, by some distance, the best movie of the three, and it showcases the impeccable symmetry of [Seidl's] compositions, while retaining his compulsion to wag a finger in your face. Rated: 2.5/4 Dec 20, 2013 Full Review Sam Adams The Dissolve Paradise: Hope quickly rights itself and becomes lighter, looser, and more sympathetically observed than anything Seidl has done previously, ending a grim trilogy on a brighter note than expected. Rated: 4/5 Dec 18, 2013 Full Review Michael Atkinson Village Voice If this trilogy capper doesn't leave the contusions the other films have, it remains a necessary salve, particularly if you dare to binge-watch. Dec 17, 2013 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com As thrillingly good equal to its sister films, Seidl tantalizes here by subverting our expectations based on his previous work, giving us a modestly sweet afterglow after we've gnawed our way through the sour and sublime. Aug 29, 2019 Full Review Daniel Green CineVue Far weaker than the two previous chapters, Hope gropes hopelessly for provocation, but instead finds only tedious, highfalutin banality. Rated: 2/5 Feb 27, 2019 Full Review Michael Atkinson In These Times As a scalding film experience about modern womanhood and its discontents, it has no peer this year.
