Brett H I was disappointed. It had a decent premise, but the main characters suffered from a persistent dumbness that really jarred. It's just lazy writing to create drama. After being told that their money won't work in a parallel universe, they try it anyway. After being advised to be cautious, they blunder around getting into all sorts of trouble. Other things made little sense. The main characters apparently go for about 48 hours without food, drink, or much rest. An electronics tinkerer from a nuked Earth makes it to the same technologically advanced Earth that our heroes do, and in a matter of hours (hours!) manages to create a self-contained, self-powered device that has a sophisticated graphical interface, can navigate the parallel dimensions, and can control the Building, despite him not knowing the slightest technical detail about any of these things, and, in fact, knowing a lot less than our poor, dumb heroes do. I can see that this was necessary for the setup, but it's all done in such a lazy, clumsy way that it's disrespectful to the viewer. The one bright spot in this show is Constance Wu as Polly, the veteran parallel-traveller, who has a few neat tricks, never has a dumb line, and actually seems like she should be in a different, better show. It's a shame we'll never see that character again. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/04/23 Full Review Late R Any film that deals with messing with the space-time continuum as we know it always gets my hopes up, but most of the time it ends up being disappointing; ‘Parallels' is no different. Whilst the base idea is interesting, it's nothing new and has been done before with much better results. Its main problem is that whilst there's technically a lot going on, nothing much of importance actually happens and there's no real depth or smarts. Instead, it tries to rely on lots of "twists" that are supposed to be shocking and engaging, but only end up being predictable and silly. There must have been a more interesting story to tell here, but granted, when it comes to complex topic like parallel universes, writing something clever that feels fresh and has depth is a feat that isn't easy to pull off. If you're looking for something to pass the time, it might do, but it's definitely not memorable. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/03/22 Full Review Audience Member This movie actually pissed me off. Wasted an hour and a half of my life, to watch a movie with an ending that explained nothing about anything. Pure garbage. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Okay, this was a great idea for parallel worlds travel. The only thing I didn't like was that the story was left hanging, I was trying to figure it out with my imagination but I couldn't fill in the details. It felt like it missed a few clips. I did enjoy it because I'm a sci-fi fan and how they mention the other earths. I wish we could see a sequel soon.
