Audience Member So, I played the games in 1998 and 2000 which took me to the book - English version in 2007 then played the last game in 2011 and now I finally was able to find the film with subtitles. Most critics here are based on the storyline of the games, in that case you will be disappointed this film in based on the original book in 1996. This film does a great job interpreting the elaborated non-liner story line of the book. Hideaki Sena author of "Parasite Eve" describes a more violent, sexual and graphic story which it's tone down in the film. The director creates a film that is interesting, omits most of the gruesome violence and yet is loyal to the original story, even adds a nice ending which it is different from the book. The problem with this film is the acting, the camera movements and disconnection to real situations. The camera movements are awkward, some elaborated shots are unnecessary, creative camera movement that have no purpose and instead confuses the audience by making us believe that there is substance behind that shot when there isn't. It doesn't feel like anything larger than a student film. I do applaud the decision to cut some scenes from the book that would have required so much CGI and visual effects. This cast acting is somewhat painful to watch, some actors just mimic American mannerism and reaction that are cliche and overacted. The scenes in the film are so unrealistic and I am not referring to any scenes that uses visual effects but rather to the one that don't. Mostly the interaction between actors, the tolerance of pain "specially when ones arms are on fire" and so much more, some scene are comical without the intent of being funny. The director does a great job working around the scenes that were requiring massive work on visual effects, I believe mostly for budget reasons but it worked! Also it helps the film not to be so dated by the visual effects of the 90's. I really like the spin the director gave the film by making it more sentimental and more romantic than the book, I think the director did capture something that Hideaki Sena tried in the book. Overall this film deserve a watch, if you are of the basic story either by the game, books or even the Manga, I would recommend. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Too good for critics apparently, Bought and paid for cowards who are beneath the concepts in this movie itself. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Parasite Eve delivers a compelling and enriching story that captivates the audiences in this sci-fi thriller. The drama is quite strong that it leads into the action of the movie. The antagonist is quite entertaining. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member this movie really need a remake. I recommend this movie for everyone, if you play the game, then this movie will answer so many questions. The suspense is very good, the special effects suck but the story makes up for it. i think this is many scientist nightmare. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Real terrible movie, man. Bad effects, real bad plot, and barely anything that resembles the awesome game (granted, this is FAR more based on the novel of the same name). People DO start on fire, however, earning it another half a star than it deserves. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member I was quite disappointed to see the lack of real horror in the film. More of a romantic science fiction than body horror. In comparison to the game, this is dull as a wet carrot. But nonetheless, there were a few interesting scientific information to be learnt, also the acting wasn't too bad. 2 hours of running time is a bit too long to be quite frank.
