Amelia Emberwing Slashfilm Philophobia: or the Fear of Falling in Love has a little something for everyone. Rated: 7/10 Jul 1, 2020 Full Review Alex Saveliev Film Threat Despite all the missteps, Cole and Burt are onto something here. The film is sprinkled with some surprisingly deep psychological insight and neon-noir-ish colors... Rated: 6/10 Dec 12, 2019 Full Review Joseph Braverman AwardsCircuit.com With a sumptuous color palette, Philophobia will leave viewers viscerally intoxicated despite the purposeful mental scarring. Rated: 3/4 Nov 22, 2019 Full Review Martin Unsworth Starburst This film could be the ultimate film to watch for those with a fear of commitment, you'll either understand where the main character is coming from, or will feel so uncomfortable that you'll be running for the door. Rated: 8/10 Nov 20, 2019 Full Review Marisa Carpico The Pop Break ...Philophobia is a strange mix of comedy and horror that's, unfortunately, only intermittently effective. Nov 12, 2019 Full Review Adriana Gomez-Weston The Cinema Soloist The dating scene in Los Angeles can be hellish, but Philophobia: or the Fear of Falling in Love takes kicks it up a notch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Not at all what I was expecting. I was pleasantly surprised! I was expecting a horror movie. This was not a horror movie at all (though, there are some gruesome images). Philophobia: or the fear of falling in love, far surpassed my expectations! This movie somehow manages to show complexity with very minimal effort. I feel like the lead character, Damien (portrayed by Aaron Burt), is to thank for that. It gets deep without you realizing how deep it is going and without it ever feeling too deep while sprinkled with moments that make you laugh. The result is a chaotic look into a side of dating and breakups that is rarely shown on screen. We are all so use to seeing a woman's triumph or struggle to get through a breakup after a woman is dating a commitment phobic man. We all even joke about it. This was a genuine look at the other side... the male side. It is more than just dealing with a breakup, because the main character struggles to come face to face with something inside of him. The subject, as the title suggests, is the fear of falling in love. Damien's fear isn't manifested in the common way that most people think of it, but shows a true phobia. Part of you will want to smack Damien, part will want to hug him and part will want to shake him, another part might even want to kick him really hard in the butt... somehow, all of you still loves him. Watch it. You won't be disappointed. Well, I mean, you might have bad taste, so I could be wrong. Luckily, I have excellent taste, so I loved it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member 2.2 I was waiting for this movie to grow on me but it never fid Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/13/20 Full Review Audience Member Original writing and strong acting make for a fun ride in this rom-com horror? film. It moves pretty seamlessly and strikes a real chord at the end, even though you know it's coming. It's comforting that way. Lots of fun. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Disconnected. Illogical. Poor acting. Waste of time. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Two stars is probably being generous for this steaming heap o' crud. It's clear there were not 'top critics' who reviewed this one on RT, as no self-respecting critic could give this a truly positive review, imo. I get (sorta) what they were trying for, but for me it comes off as really cornball, unfunny, not in the least 'horrific' ( well, maybe horrifically bad) hack work. I give the those involved credit for setting and largely maintaining the tone of the film. But poor acting, a disjointed story line, too many unnecessary characters all went into making this an unfortunate pot of botulism.
