Kenneth Turan Los Angeles Times "Planet of Snail" is simple, direct and magical. Rated: 4/5 Sep 13, 2012 Full Review Farran Smith Nehme New York Post Gentle, simply told love stories are as rare in documentaries these days as they are in narrative film. That alone makes Yi Seung-jun's "Planet of Snail" a standout. Rated: 3.5/4 Jul 26, 2012 Full Review Andrew O'Hehir Salon.com "Planet of Snail" offers a precious moment of clarity and simplicity amid a chaotic and poisonous summer, and tells an unforgettable love story to boot. Jul 25, 2012 Full Review Jordan M. Smith IONCINEMA.com Yi Seung-jun has crafted a remarkable depiction of love, understanding, and patience. Young-Chan's unique experience is expressed through watery sound manipulation, and tranquil cinematography that captures the intimacy with which he perceives the world. Feb 9, 2020 Full Review Mattie Lucas From the Front Row A deeply humane film in that way, relatively straightforward in structure and style but its story is one that is both timeless and moving. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member A lyrical film about the life and marriage of Young-chan, a disabled man who lost his vision and hearing at a young age, after he had learned to speak, and his wife, Soon-ho, who suffers from spinal injury that stunted her growth. She communicates with him by tapping on his hand in braille. We become witnesses the their life, not only challenges - which clearly there are, but also the gentleness and kindness, depth, and fun of their relationship. He is a poet, a writer, an artist. She seems to be able to tap into his needs, always. And when they are concerned that he may be too dependent on her, and she escorts him, to "his day away from her" with is cane...Upon his return, they confide with each other honestly how they felt about it..I liked that director Yi Seung-jun, did not use any voice-over narration, but simply showed us what their life is like...A beautiful love story; Masterfully shot poetic film, about a unique marriage-partnership.
