      Critics Consensus

A coolly calculating psychological thriller that manages to scare the audience even if it is just using textbook thrills.

Brian O Clint Eastwood's acting is as wooden as ever, the film belongs to Jessica Walter who is genuinely scary as the obsessed fan. A classic psychological thriller. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/24 Full Review Les N Maybe I need to watch it again?????????????? Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/17/23 Full Review Eye C Crazy chick in love with a naive DJ… soooo long ago… Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/25/23 Full Review Logan M Perhaps Eastwood's most disturbing film. It's a unique slice of horror that I'd highly recommend. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/03/23 Full Review Steve W Originally, I watched this as a young man. A better perspective was gained by watching again as an adult. In spite of that, both consensu agree that lady was crazy! LOL. Misty is a decent thriller worth watching. Mostly because of Jessica Walter's convincing performance as Evelyn. It all revolves around her. She is like an insatiable parasite. Eastwoods character Daves lust gets the best of his judgement at a steep price. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/02/23 Full Review Damian L It was real thrilling and chilling Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Jay Cocks TIME Magazine Eastwood displays a vigorous talent for sequences of violence and tension. He has obviously seen Psycho and Repulsion more than once, but those are excellent texts and he has learned his lessons passing well. Aug 30, 2009 Full Review Variety Staff Variety For that 80% of the film which constitutes the story, the structure and dialog create a mood of nervous terror which the other 20% nearly blows away. Apr 8, 2008 Full Review Dave Kehr Chicago Reader Clint Eastwood wisely chose a strong, simple thriller for his first film as a director, and the project is remarkable in its self-effacing dedication to getting the craft right. Apr 8, 2008 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies While it’s hardly (Eastwood's) best directed film, you get good tastes of the filmmaker he would become all throughout “Misty”. Rated: 3.5/5 Mar 9, 2023 Full Review Sean Burns Crooked Marquee Look, if you’re an up-and-coming actor directing a film for the first and possibly last time, why wouldn’t you devote 4.2% of the total running time to Donna Mills having sex with you under a waterfall? Jan 28, 2023 Full Review Grant Watson Fiction Machine The sexual politics may be terribly dated, and its portrayal of mental illness typically inaccurate, but there is a solid, old-fashioned potboiler at work here.
