A very poignant mov is about the pilgrims and their voyage to the new world. Nothing more. Very plain and simple and nothing noire. Has the plot to be great but doesn't live up to it. Van Johnson's worst rote as an actor of his many great roles.

Serviceable historical drama, done Hollywood style, that features Spencer Tracy as the hard-as-nails captain of the Mayflower charged with delivering a cargo of deluded, delusional (and doomed) undesirables (the Pilgrims!) across the sea. Maybe some liberties are taken with the plot, but what matter as long as our forefathers make it to forge a destiny for us all? Beyond the captain, notable on the voyage are Gene Tierney, Leo Dunn, Lloyd Bridges and Van Johnson. What really flies are the ship-in-distress scenes for which it won an Academy award. Not great, but not bad either.
