Francois Truffaut Arts (France) With Clarence Brown, the viewer has to make the first move. The attention that one is willing to bring to it from the beginning is always well rewarded. Steve D Goofy and made up nonsense. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/06/24 Full Review bearpawz Mind-boggling that this was even approved for production. It's a loser and a snoozer... Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/03/22 Full Review vin w I think this was a very fun adventure story with an excellent cat and Oscar winning special effects. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/17/22 Full Review Audience Member A very poignant mov is about the pilgrims and their voyage to the new world. Nothing more. Very plain and simple and nothing noire. Has the plot to be great but doesn't live up to it. Van Johnson's worst rote as an actor of his many great roles. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review kevin w Serviceable historical drama, done Hollywood style, that features Spencer Tracy as the hard-as-nails captain of the Mayflower charged with delivering a cargo of deluded, delusional (and doomed) undesirables (the Pilgrims!) across the sea. Maybe some liberties are taken with the plot, but what matter as long as our forefathers make it to forge a destiny for us all? Beyond the captain, notable on the voyage are Gene Tierney, Leo Dunn, Lloyd Bridges and Van Johnson. What really flies are the ship-in-distress scenes for which it won an Academy award. Not great, but not bad either. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Despite its poetic license I still enjoyed it because of its blunt introduction to the reality of seafaring and settling new land.
