StephenPaul C LOL, the funniest 01 hour: and 27 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/13/23 Full Review jonathan m I'll not judge these movies personally or professionally the first one was very good the rest still watchable there 80s slap stick cop movies with instead of the 3 Stooges you get 12. Haha. A lot of great tallent that didn't get a brake!. But there is only so many hours in a day. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review matthew d Pretty lighthearted police farce. Jerry Paris' crime comedy Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment (1985) finds some heart and humor from this franchise that spoofs police corruption, hate, and procedure. Paris' direction is pretty straightforward, trying for an Airplane! feel, but for a police station that is just terrible at keeping the peace. I still laugh at this sequel, but it's just a poorer version of Police Academy. Steve Guttenberg is still funny and likable as the fast talking Mahoney, only Kim Cattrell isn't here to have any romance like the first. David Graf's trigger happy Tackleberry tones down the violence in favor of his silly romance story alongside the ever lovely Colleen Camp's gun nut Sergeant Kirkland. Bubba Smith is still hilarious and endearing as the gargantuan Hightower. Michael Winslow's outrageous vocal effects artist abilities are spectacular as Larvelle Jones. I have to mention the high pitched insanity of Bobcat Goldthwait's funny villain Zed. He's the reason to watch this one. Bruce Mahler's slapstick antics as Fackler remain some of the funniest accident prone gags I've ever seen. His comedic timing is excellent. Marion Ramsey's meek voice for Hooks is still fun, though I wish she were in it more. I really disliked Art Metrano's awkward Lieutenant Mauser. He's just a worse version of the jerk from the original. He's trying way too hard and often overselling the punchline. George Gaynes is wonderful as Commandant Lessard, but he's barely in it this time! His Benihana scene with his brother Howard Hesseman's Peter Lessard is just fabulous. Lastly, Peter van Norden's gross Vinny character is just a riot with his lack of hygiene, but it's his massive dog Lou that steals every second he's on screen. Writers David Sheffield and Barry W. Blaustein reuse some familiar gags from the fantastic first film, but find new and ridiculous ways to pull laughter from the police antics of these crazy recruits. I think they did help start an annoying trend of having the 1980's gangs just scream and act crazy like The Warriors or something. Bob Wyman's editing is pretty sharp as Police Academy 2 never really drags with its briskly paced 87 minutes. Cinematographer James Crabe finds all sorts of funny perspectives and wide shots to shoot all the police shootouts and fights alongside each visual gag. Robert Folk's soul is pretty fun for the score again with more of a silly 80's vibe. In short, Police Academy 2 gives laughs and absurdity, but not as memorable as the phenomenal first comedy Police Academy. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member It follows the same formula as the first one. If you liked that one you'll like this one. Again not my type of humor anymore. But I know I enjoyed it as a kid. So go at it! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member They're out of boot and on the streets, protecting the city against a ruthless gang... Kinda. Several comedy skits set in a story. Entertaining. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/29/20 Full Review George M When you're trying to watch 501 movies in 501 days, they won't all be popcorn classics. Bobcat Goldthwait adds half a bag to this movie, but this movie's status as a "cult classic" shows why cults are so bad and dangerous.
