If you can believe in Sinatra as an 1810 vintage Spanish guerrilla, you can believe anything, but it's still a slog through a platitudinous script. Go to Full Review

Its eye-tilling assets include mammoth cannon, which is far more interesting, in the long haul, than the celebrities in the cast... Go to Full Review

The Pride and the Passion might have been, and should have been, something very much better than it is. It ought to have been at least exciting, which it isn't. The fault lies mainly with three things: the script, Cary Grant, and the music. Go to Full Review

Tim A Sep 20 I saw this movie as a child, loved it! Saw it again tonight and I still love the crazy patriotism of the Spaniards and the teamwork with the English to overcome the imperial aspirations of the French. It's beautiful! Vive l'independance! Boom boom! See more Mike W May 7 For being a big production movie it was not very good, taking forever to plod through the countryside to a conclusion. As far as acting goes, all three stars were miscast. When Sinatra first appeared in his character I laughed. Somewhere after the first half the plot became silly. See more Mark E Apr 21 Could be one of the silliest movies I've ever seen. Sinatra leads a resistance "that never retreats", but they don't have any guns. Well, I guess they acquired a few muskets here and there. Peck, a high ranking officer, arrives to help, but he has no aides, entourage or troops, its just him. A regiment of French infantry could've driven off this rabble at their leisure and captured the gun, but apparently nobody thought of this idea. But the cast is great, the acting very good and the cinematography is breathtaking. If nothing else, this movie showcases just how good an actor Frank Sinatra was, and you really can't go wrong with Gregory Peck and Sophia Loren See more Chris J Feb 27 I remember way back in the mid 60's when I was sitting for my O level English literature exams in England, we had to study "The Gun" by C. S. Forester. This was the novel upon which this movie was based. We were forbidden by our English Master from watching this movie. He told us it bore little to no relationship to the book. 60 years later, I can see what he meant. Frank Sinatra as a Spaniard was almost as bad as Danny Kaye as a cockney. The scenery and story overwhelm the average acting and Frank’s toupe. Written by the Hornblower bloke. See more Read all reviews
