Audience Member In the days when The Parent Trap - like movies reigned in the family genre, Mark Twain's classic tale, "The Prince and the Pauper" received several film adaptations. This is one of them. A young prince, Edward of Gelfland travels to California with his mother for important royal seminars (or something of the like). It is there he runs into a surfer/skater boy by the name of Cash Canty who could pass as his identical twin. The boys decide to trade places for a day and soon find it hard to switch back. On top of that there is a traitor in the midst of the royal family. What unfolds is predictable but enjoyable to watch none the less. The acting was decent - I thought Sean Kellman did a good job at portraying the two boys. The two love-interests for the boys are fun as well, and Robert Englund is at his villainous best as usual. There were a few plotholes in the film, but was that really so unexpected? It's obvious from the title that this is no Oscar winner. The only thing that really bothers me about this film is that the boy never actually gets in the water - he's a skater and it should have stated that in the title - but oh well - a little play on words was probably the intention of the title - The Prince and the SERFer". Overall, a decent watch - fun and entertaining, but not the best film by far. Still, if you want a cute, yet predictable, family comedy, this is it.
